Feel free to say hi at ACC Labor Day weekend, you're welcome to borrow it for a session. This applies to anyone that's interested. I only got a 250 because a friend talked me into trying his out on the track and I had a blast, so I like to pay it forward.

It seems like the ninja is the most popular. Has anyone ridden the honda?

Are you serious? I would love to do it. I definitely would love to ride it if you let me!

You are just teasing me, aren't you?

The Honda is single cylinder vs the Ninja's two cylinder, so it's significantly down on power. Because of that, CBRs really can't be competitive in a 250 class, so there aren't a lot of track prepped ones out there. Also, because they're so much newer, they're much more expensive to dig up.

The Honda does handle better (or so I've heard from people that have rode them on the track) and have fuel injection, but you're paying a lot more for those two things and losing about 30% of the hp over the Ninja.

100% serious! Look for the blue with white stripes everywhere 250 (numbered 393, same bike as my avatar, different number though) and introduce yourself.

I developed the same desire reading this and seeing them pop up all over the tracks...

Interestingly enough...the newer 300 almost never gets mentioned...but I guess there are way more 250s out there for cheaper $$$....

There is one that is raced regularly down here in the southeast. You can see him in first video I posted. He kknows ho wto get a bike around the track pretty well and he has done everything you can to it to have it competitive with the ninjas with a lot less work to them (all superstock legal though).

All I need to do now is convince her to take the plunge! I've seen lots of great deals on ninjas. Even if not for her, something for me to play with:nod:

My wife is looking to sell her 2011 Ninja 250r. Only downfall is it's all bone stock in perfect condition with less than 2,000 miles on it. Let me know if anyone is interested!!! -Eric

Is the RC390 finally coming to the States? I have been waiting for it since I first heard of the bike...

If I didn't have a supermoto bike I would totally buy the ktm rc390!
That would be an amazing track weapon

Speaking of the ninja 300 - Can anyone tell me how big are the differences between the 2008 - 2012 250 and the 2013 300 besides the obvious 50 cc and EFI, wider rear wheel/tire?

I've ridden a 2012 250, so I'm wondering if I ride the 2013 300 how much better the 50cc and EFI will feel.

Main reason I'm asking is that we are looking for a first track bike for my wife and can pick up a very clean low mile ( 1000 - 3000 ) 10/11/12 250 for around $2000 - 2400. We just came across a 2013 ninja 300 SE ( no ABS ) for about the same $$$, looks very clean in pics, BUT the catch is it has just over 14,000 miles already.

So my big question(s) is are we better off getting a low mile 2008 - 2012 carb 250, or the higher mile EFI 300 ???

AND - other than the basic wear items, what's the durability/life expectancy I can expect out of the 300 since it already has 14,000 miles???

Mainly concerned about engine/trans life on the 2013 300, and also if she decides the track is not for her, re-sale might be tough with the 14k on it.............

We are going to take a look at the 2013 this evening so any info/insight would be appreciated - thanks alot.

I don't have much experience with the 300, but since it's based on the 250 I wouldn't worry about 14K miles on it. The 250 engine is bulletproof. As long as you do maintenance it'll run forever.

Thanks for the reply Knolly, we did end up picking up the 2013 300 for her to start her track day career, hopefully it works out well. It's a great looking bike, and actually seems like it will be a very fun toy, even for me. It's feels like a mini bike compared to my 2012 R1, but thats alot of what she likes about it - she's very comfy on it, it fits her well and that should give her more confidence on the track.

I took it for a " REAL " test ride yesterday when I got home and have already come up with a few questions about putting it on the track, since you seem to be pretty experienced with these lil' guys, I will send you a PM.

Couldn't agree more! I rode one 4-5 days a week for an entire season on the street. I wasn't introduced to the track until the following year when I had a 600, so I haven't taken one on the track but I have been tempted to purchase another one just for track days! It was so easy to throw around. Perfect starter bike!!!

Interesting thread. I'm still having some trouble leaning off the bike as much as I'd like to on the track. I've taken several courses (Fast School, CSS). Decided to go back to basics. Taking a course in May for 3 days on a 250. Hoping the size of the bike will help me get it right and then transfer this skill to my track bikes.
