I'm in the market for a new suit (one piece, <$1200). I'm 6 feet tall around 160lbs, always wear slider shorts, back and chest protector. Does anyone have a general idea which brands I should consider? I may take a drive to STG one weekend and try-on a bunch of suits :)

Custom, though if you have access to STG that is another option to try fits.

Stick to Alpinestars and you're be ok. They are a scrawny European Rossi-style fit, great for people who don't normally eat food and have never lifted a weight in their lives. Once you add chest protector and back protector, should be good.

If you're in the Chicagoland area I wouldn't mind taking a look at what you have for sale.

I have a buddy, 6'4" about 220 and he was having an extremely hard time finding an OTR suit to fit his long body. He opted for a 46 Speed & Strength and it could not have been better.

I have spent time looking and trying on lots of suits - we have a local Motorcycle Superstore Outlet and I put more thought into what I wear after crashing and knowing was saved me, what didn't, and what could be made better. I personally am back to the Speed & Strength 2.0 suit, though it is now discontinued with a new 3.0 suit. I checked out one; I wear a 38 myself; but I found the 3.0 ran larger, at least the one I had. I found a 2.0 on closeout and picked it up. I am 5'7" and need a good 2" cut off both arms and ankles...these are made for long people, like I said.

Browsing ebay real quick, I found these:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speed-and-S...parel_Merchandise&hash=item2a49c4d9b5&vxp=mtr
Size 42 3.0 suit; ends soon and priced at $300 when msrp is close to $90.

    Or: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speed-and-S...parel_Merchandise&hash=item1c47ed6048&vxp=mtr
2.0 size 40 - this suit, personally, I believe is superior to the 3.0 as regards its armor protection (Knox) and overall leather coverage - where people don't even seem to realize. At a price of $490 shipped - this is the same seller I got mine for last month at $370 shipped (send a message offering less, ask them to adjust price if agreeable :D ) and actually when I paid for it, it's through Riders Discount.

With mention to leather locations...the lower arms; I've seen arms twist in crashes so good the leather coverage is all around; the insides of knees - many leathers just put a ton of stretch material, but crash on that and you will leave skin on the track.

Note I have absolutely no affiliation with the ebay sellers above; I am just bored on this Tuesday evening :D

    Good luck!

I wish you luck, I couldn't find anything and I live ten minutes from STG. I probably pissed them off that day..

Don't compromise and get something even slightly baggy for the added length. It's definitely tempting, but I don't think it's the right call.

    For reference, I'm 6'7" 175.

I wound up with a custom, and it fits me perfectly.. Literally like a perfect glove. I crashed in this once and it isn't noticeable, I've have had it for two years with a third year coming up soon and no plans to replace it.

My first suit was the SS 2.0 and it did its job. My biggest gripe was fit and finish. But thanks for your input.

Start with a tape measure and get a chest measurement and then some of the other numbers. Then have a look at extended fitment charts to get an idea of the "cut" of a suit. Basic fitment charts won't do, you need a lot of numbers to get the true idea of fit.

I'm 5-11 and 210 lbs, so I need a "fat American cut". Lol. By the time I get an Alpinestars that fits my 45" chest, they expect me to be 6'-4" and the knee sliders are down by my ankle.

So, probably start with a chest measurement, then check out the suit's other numbers like height, waist and inseam and see how close they are. Generally, suits fall into 2 types of cuts, American (fat) and European (skinny).

AGVsport suits fit my thick build nicely, but if you put one on that fit your height, you would be swimming in it for every other dimension. But if you put on an AGVsport that fit your chest, it would be too short and riding up in your nuts. Pick the right cut of suit and you can get a snug fit that isn't baggy, good positioning of knee sliders and enough space for the boys.

I made the four hour trip to STG. I'm a 6'3" 170 beanpole. The first suit I bought when I started track riding was a Teknic Chicane 44 through Motosport. Tried it and no way in hell it was going to fit. Sent back for a 46 and nice and tight but comfortable. Half way through the first season so baggy it was like a wind sail. Even bought a Knox back protector and armored shorts to try and fill it out (and be better protected). No good.
Made the trip to STG. Picked out a Astar Motegi 46. Comfortable and way better suit overall. Brandon decided to try and get me in a 44. Took my wife and I 5 minutes to get it on. Tight tight tight. As I'm walking around the store Brandon thinks I need to try on a 42. I laugh.
Two grown men, my wife and I finally get the suit on. Cant stand up even close to straight. So tight it was hard to take a deep breath. No way my other gear was going to fit in there.
First track day was horrible. Every coach pulled me in on BP. So tired fighting against the leather I could only run 10 minutes every session. Scuffed the suit up, no way they were taking it back. I was screwed.
Next track day not too bad, was able to get my armored shorts on at least. With my horrible BP I was bound to lay it down.
To end this long ass boring story, suit loosened up. Was able to get the back protector in. The suit is like a second skin to me now, I dont even think about it. I would have never ordered a 42 from any height/weight chart from the manufacturers.
Go talk to Brandon at STG (plus you get mad discounts when you tell him how far you drove haha)

I'm 6'6", 225lb and opted to get a custom from Pilot. Best move in my opinion. Fit's like a glove and it looks the way I wanted it to.

This is great thanks! Having my measurements will certainly help with STG over the phone.

I'm 6'2" 180lbs and had the find of a lifetime with RS Taichi - GP-WRX R303 LEATHER SUIT XXL/56 from STG. It's a "Japanese Cut". I walked out of the dressing room and the clerks all said, "holy shit, that's like a custom fitting suit!"

It's incredible. I would do some research and see if you can find that "cut" and try some on.
