I'm looking at buying a set of rear sets this year, but I'm wondering how much they actually help. I have a problem with getting my upper body off of the tank. WhenI do I feel like my arms are locked out and I need to stand up. Would rear sets help alleviate this problem? On a side note can anyone get in touch with Ken at SBK ?I've tried calling and emailing him but can't reach him.
Rear sets and adjustable clip ons will make a huge difference..... I would start with some Apex Clip ons before making the rear set investment..
Teddy has them at the track.. Next time you are there I would ask him.. I think the Hondas you need the risers if I am not mistaken...
Someone once told me to get my nuts off of the tank and back in the seat more. Changed my riding tremendously, specifically when it comes to hanging off. Maybe give that a shot as well.
Assuming the bike in question is the 07 CBR in your profile, you ABSOLUTELY will need the 1 1/2 inch risers. Other wise your clip-ons will be banging off the body work when trying to turn (or even at rest on the kickstand). You will also run into issues with the upper touching the brake/clutch slightly.
But you asked about rear sets! Lol. Just realized that.... I have woodcraft rear-sets on mine (07 cbr600rr) I like them, but if i'm being honest i haven't noticed a sizable difference in my riding because of them. I'd agree with the post above, that clip-ons will make a larger "feel" difference to you. You may also look into getting some tech-spec or stomp grip tank pads. I was surprised at the difference they make as well (and cheap!)
Yes it us the 600rr, going on 3 1/2 years now . I have stomp grips, and I'm going to get the clipons. I'll be at Barber in a few weeks so we'll see how it goes.
I tested Apex GP style clip-ons at NOLA a month ago. The leverage changes, giving the steering more of a dirtbike feel. It seems to take less effort to steer and the front tire gives you more feedback. You really use your triceps a lot with them. It was weird and I never got used to the feel in just a weekend but in truth, I really liked it.
I have Vortex rear sets. The biggest difference is the grip. With the stock ones my outside foot would occasionally slip off the peg while pushing myself around on the bike. With the Vortex and there aggressive peg design I haven't had a single issue.
Well when I get to the track I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a set of clip-ons, along with getting my rear shock serviced. I recently bought some new fairings also. After all is said and done Ill have another 1000 dollars into this bike. This habit is breaking my bank.
I've found that they've help me in my body position. With me being a smaller rider, i really needed to move the foot controls up. After putting on my woodcrafts, i found myself hanging on the tank a lot better. I do make sure I scoot back just a bit (been told a fist between the tank and your nuts) and that made a difference on how I've been able to hang on to the tank Not to mention, aftermarket rear sets crash so much better. I've high sided and low sided on mine this past month and all I've had to replace is the grounded off foot pegs.
Rearsets: I prefer Woodcraft myself but got a crazy deal on Vortex for my 2011 750 so jumped at it. Tried them out for a while but the Vortex pegs are a lot more aggressive than I like, was hard for me to reposition my feet quickly. So I filed the pegs down a bit and that's helped. Had Woodcraft on my SV. Woodcraft clipons on the 750 as well.
