Track friendly Coolant

Is ther any track friendly coolant. I've been using water Weter since the 90's but with this crazy georgia weather I'm tired of changing it out for antifreeze for every freeze warning.

Engine ice is o.k. for Advanced and Intermediate, good down to -25 or something like that. thats what i've been running for colder t.d., or when it sits in the winter. I always go back to water wetter in the hot weather, I dont know why.

6) Advanced and Intermediate group riders MUST use water or water wetter or a non-ethyl glycol based anti-freeze/coolant. Approved Poly Glycol brands are: Evans, 7th Gear, Liquid Performance, and Engine Ice. NO AUTOMOTIVE ETHYL GLYCOL BASED COOLANTS ARE ALLOWED.

hmmm...didn't know that about engine ice....may have to switch from water wetter over to that stuff.

 

I have used the 7th gear stuff that STG sells, it works great.

 

I've been using Engine Ice in my trackbike for the last 4 years and when my wife got a trackbike this past spring, I switched it over to Engine Ice also. We don't get a lot of prolonged below freezing here in E. TN, but enough that I don't want to have to heat the garage or drain it every fall and use a anti-freeze type coolant. Engine Ice is suppose to be good to -26F.
If it gets colder than that here.........I'm moving further south.

 

Could never understand why engine ice and other glycol based coolants are allowed when others are not. It doesn't make any difference if it is ethylene or propolene based, it is the glycol that is slipperier than crap and a bitch to cleanup. As far as I know, none of the race orgs allow anything that is glycol based.
Another thing that confuses me is an antifreeze leak from a novice any less slippery than that of an Advanced rider?
Even in amateur and pro dirttrack, glycol based coolants are not allowed, and that is on dirt! JMO Tdub

 

I have to disagree here. I do not believe either CCS, CMRA, AFM, MRA, Ama, or WERA allow glycol based coolants.
As far as the cleanup, Engine Ice is just as bad and Evans is even worse as it is 100% glycol!

I may have been wrong about engine ice. They either don't use water wetter or engine ice. As far as making novices change everything out I have not seen any reason for that. I can't remember very many spills in the south this year and I have been at most events. Mark would know the answer to that better than anyone. I see no reason for change. Even with a spill racers get more track for their buck than they would at any race. And making street riders have to prep their bikes more would only cause a loss in new riders and more issues at tech during a track day. There are people in Intermediate that come to the track with the wrong coolant in their radiators and still some folks who try to get on the track in Advanced with out being safety wired. You ask them why they haven't taken care of it and the answer is I didn't know I had to. Track days need to be simple as possible and a good experience and for the last two years I haven't seen anyone not having fun so why would we want to change now?

i don't think engine ice has ever been legal in wera.

 

Looking back to '07, it states "no glycol based coolants" which would include Engine Ice.

 

Thats what I was thinking. A friend of mine races and he says you can use engine ice everywhere but WERA

 

It is strange that CCS allows Propolene Glycol but not ethylene glycol. Guess they just dont know any better :lol: Tdub
