I'm trying to figure out where and how to mount the hard wired westhold transponder on a gen 2 sv650 that will be raced in the Ccs series this year. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dave
CCS wants it on the right. I don't know how picky they are about it. I 5.4.2 All machines must have the ESU properly mounted before going to technical inspection. Machines without the ESU properly installed will not be given a tech sticker and cannot enter the racecourse until gaining approval. The ESU is considered to be properly mounted if it is securely fastened to the right front fork leg, right front fork tube or right side of fairing where the signal can be read by the ground antenna and activated by passing through the activation area..It is the riders responsibility to insure proper activation of the ESU before entering the racecourse. A. There can be no solid metal or carbon fiber between the mounted ESU and the ground antenna. In all cases where motorcycle chassis or body work design places solid metal or carbon fiber between the ESU and the ground antenna, it is the riders responsibility to provide an adequate or alternate mounting location that allows the ESU to be activated and to function properly
Well in Midwest, they are moving the activation loop from pit out to the tech shed for 2016 and suggesting people go hardwired. The activated ones (the blue ones) are still usable but now you'll have to ride through tech shed on your way to the session to activate it. Activated ones are supposed to be on the right fork, the hardwired ones since they have a different orientation that's not ideal for forks. Tied to the upper fairing stay is what I've seen done with the hardwired ones (and what I'm going to do when I switch to one). As to how picky they are, really depends on your tech guy. Some are rather anal about things.
They should have them at the track or on the CCS website (ccsracing.us). They are about $150 for the wired ones.
