Not to boast, but I just booked the trip to see the pros at COTA in April. There will be AMA flat track and some MotoAmerica there too. Sorry, I'm excited! Is anyone else planning to head there that weekend? I would not mind meeting up with some fellow crazies!
Congrats - had some friends who went last year, and they said it was a fantastic event. Are you staying at a hotel? My only experience was Indy, the year of the hurricane. We had a camper so it wasn't too expensive split four ways.
Yea, we will be staying in a hotel. We used to do Indy, went the last two years. I liked camping across the street. I'm not camping in Texas. It would be too hard to fly the gear there, and I don't like snakes all that much.
The cota website has a very nice interactive app the gives a 360 around each seating area. We got tickets in the turn 15 grandstand. There were few left there when we booked. You might want the at least buy your seats soon.
We went this year and for Friday and Saturday I wouldn't buy anything more than general admission as the stands are near empty and you can sit pretty much anywhere you want. Sunday was more packed but even still, plenty of room. I haven't figured out how to watch these races live (spoiled by MotoGP streaming with the best seat in the house). We sat in the main grandstands, under cover, and never moved to other locales. But, I was streaming the MotoGP feed on my iPad so that we could see what was happening elsewhere on the track. Only problem is that it was about a minute delayed from reality. So, long winded way of saying that I wouldn't be in any hurry to buy tickets myself (unless you want covered seating, on which case yes, get moving - but there is very little covered seating at the track). It was cold and rainy this year but, I am told that is not typical for that time of year so, hopefully, will be better in 2016.
I'll be there; went for Formula 1 two years ago and had a great time. The track is, as expected for an F1 circuit, really nicely designed for spectators - easy to get anywhere and you will usually always have a view of the racing.
I have been every year, but I will miss seeing this yr due to my daughter's cheer competition the same weekend in Florida. I normally get general admission and seat in the turn one area and walk to the vendor village. I bring a bag chair to sit in. Last year was unusual. Normally it's hot and you need shade.
I'll be there. The awesome wife bought tickets as a xmas present. Flying down, then hopefully the next weekend I'll be Barber. It'll be a good start to the season.
