I was thinking about trying to make a fairing stand similar to the "MotoGenie Race Fairing Stand". My Idea was to make it out of PVC for under $50? Has anyone made something similar or know the dimensions of this stand so I can replicate it?

    http://houstonsuperbikes.com/i-22265803-motogenie-race-fairing-stand.html

I'm guessing I should do it in 1" or 1.5" or 2" for the structural strength?

Where would you use it? A bicycle hanging from your ceiling is perfect for this actually... Just loop the ears of the upper over the bars and walla... Off the ground..

$50 for something that is going to take up valuable space doing nothing 99.999% of the time, and when it is being used, it is no more useful than my front lawn.

It is race bodywork people...not a shrine to be displayed. If your race bodywork is so valuable that it needs its own stand, you are doing it wrong...

    Rough Idea?

If you wanna build a stand then build it. 1" PVC May not have enough weight to overcome the nose section so weight the rear maybe.

They actually make something like this! It's $450!!!!!!!!! Connect the parts and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line so they look like they are floating. For $450 I'll sell you an SV 650 rolling chassis to hold your bodywork up.

or go ride on the edge of traction, get a few scratches on your fairings, unintentionally of course, then u wont be so worried about that pretty paint job, i leave my fairings on my basement floor with all my other crap

Maybe I'm different. I guess I don't see the point in someone getting down on someone else for not wanting to scratch up their fairings. Some people spend a lot on their paint jobs good for them. Some people will never use a zip tie or duct tape on their bikes. . Good for them. To each their own as long as they ride.

Sorry rant over.. would i spend 400 on a stand for them no way.. but if you really want to make something make it out of pvc pipes.. lightweight cheap and easy to break down .

1" pvc should be more than enough imo. You might need to add some weight to the bottom part but that shouldn't be a problem. You could fill the bottom pvc with sand. Just glue the bottom so you can change the rest if need be..

OO Sam lol, The goal is no wrecking this year and get under 2 min lap times at NCM when its not 30 degrees outside and I'm 5-10 seconds off my normal pace! The paint job is pretty! wait till you see it! Hopefully I'll see you out some this year.

I guess the consensuses is to not make a stand. Having them laying around all over the place, this seemed like a good option to keep them all contained within a 2'x3' area but I guess not.

It's not that it's a bad idea. Most of it is coming from those of us who have been on the track a few years and know how quickly fairings get beat up from normal wear and tear of rocks thrown at you and into your lower fairing by your own tires. Take a brand new paint job to Tally and it will get beat up in the dry, let alone wait until you see what happens in the wet with rain tires, you'll think it's hailing from the stuff thrown at you! LOL

Most of us have just given up on pristine paint jobs and know they won't last. Sure you can keep themn "nice" but you are going to get more damage on the track than laying them on the ground if needed at the track.

At the track I'd throw them on the ground. At home when working on the bike it would be easier to have them contained in a 2'x3' are stacked nicely/neatly. Having them laying on the ground the floor space being taken up is alot more than if you used a stand like above. Someone suggested hanging them but that also takes up wall space and things to walk around.
