Hello everyone. Not sure where to do my intro post but I figured the regional forum would be a good spot. My name is Mark and I'm from St. Clair Shores MI. I did my first track day last year in September with the LCR class at Gingerman (any of you guys on here?). I took my street bike - a 2002 VFR800 - and had an absolute blast and learned a ton. Looking to get into track days this year and hopefully a few races with CCS. So i picked up a 2007 CBR600RR a few weeks ago from an insurance auction and planning to have it fixed up and track-ready by the spring (my buddy Jeff, not me) Looking forward to meeting everyone
Welcome aboard! Have you started looking for a second job to fund this hobby yet? What auction facility did you use to get the bike?
Haha thankfully i am blessed enough to only need my one job to fund the hobby The auction house i went through was Copart. They are nationwide and hold auctions online only and i was lucky enough to snag my CBR locally in Lansing. Some auctions have a fair share of motorcycles so i would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a project or a track bike on the cheap.
Welcome Mark! Get out of that Snow and come down South in a couple Months!! Barber is around the corner!
Welcome Mark! There's quite a large group of track day regulars from the metro area. I'm sure we'll meet up at some point if you're out at Grattan or Gingerman. As TLR67 mentioned, if you're looking for an early start head south to Barber in March. You won't regret it!
Mark, you son of a... I was looking at that very bike through Copart. Didn't even know it went to auction. Was watching it before the auction went active, then it was gone. Pretty bummed. Was wondering what happened to it. Did you get a good deal on it? Welcome to the forum. See you around here and over on 600RR.Net.
Seriously what did you pay? Looks like they have alot of hidden fees? Ive been looking at liters on co part Ohh and welcome to stt i got a 600rr too you'll love it!
Thanks everyone. I doubt I'll make it to Barber, the bike needs some love and I need some seat time on the street to get acclimated to it. It's a gazelle compared to my VFR haha. At the moment I'm planning my first track day at Grattan on 5/21. Chad - I was watching it for about a week, then 2 days before the auction I went to go see it in person and make sure my license was on file and everything (otherwise they don't let you bid). Thankfully I had the day of the auction off so I was able to sit at my computer and snag it...those online auctions move really quick! I won it at $2100 and they tacked on $700 (!) worth of fees, but $2800 out the door still seems to be a good deal for an 07+. The plastics are a bit beat up and the subframe is bent (stuff I plan to replace anyway), but it runs and rides great AND has a clean title
That's a good deal! Congrats. When I was watching it, there was no auction date listed. Then, next thing I knew, it wasn't on the site. Ooh well, at least I know where it went now. Closure, if you will...
Yeah I think the time between when the auction date was set and the actual auction was only like 4-5 days. Don't worry it's in good hands Here are a couple others I found in case you're still looking. The first is a low mile '13 (auction today!) I was actually looking into before pulling the trigger on the '07. The second seems pretty decent as well. http://www.copart.com/us/Lot/38079535?searchId=1346007418 http://www.copart.com/us/Lot/28066444?searchId=569250720
I've heard of Copart. The problem is, these bikes are you usually on multiple auction sites. So you're high bid, may not be the winning bid for the bike, just for that site. Glad it worked out for you. I haven't been so lucky in the past. See you out there!
I noticed that but thankfully didn't have an issue with this one. Thanks for the good wishes everyone, absolutely can't wait to get out there. Is it spring yet? This winter has been so messed up, got to ride on Christmas but now the snow is here and the lake isn't frozen...was hoping to get some riding in out on the ice at some point.
Wilkommen, bienvenue, come on in. I just started track days last year. Now I am a little more experienced I am looking forward to taking it to the next level. Intermediate novice here I come!!!
Welcome! My son and I try to get to most of the Grattan events. I had a get off last July so I was out for a while. Hope to be there in May. Stop on by in the lower pit, black Ez-up.
Welcome - See you out to the track this year. Ride Grattan and Gingerman as much as possible so I'm sure we'll cross paths. Lime Green ZX10 -Eric
