Greetings STT, man I miss riding with you guys!! I"m looking for some info on the FJR 1300s.

I'm considering adding an '06-'08 FJR 1300 to the family, however most of the used bikes I see out there are the AE/Auto Trans models. Anyone have any experience with the Auto? I'm looking to find one to ride.

I've logged onto a few of the FJR forums, but the ones i've found are almost worse than the BMW ones!! Would like to hear suggestions one the better FJR forum as well.

    Thanks,
    Kirk

I've owned 2 FJRs and helped guys work on them for years. I like them and think they're fun bikes for road trips.

I've only ridden one AE model, but in MY humble opinion, the auto-clutch system in that model is overly complex and clunky. I don't like how it's designed or how it operates. In slow traffic or driveway speeds, it's like having your passenger operate the clutch for you. Clumsy, like a three legged race.

It's nothing like Honda's DCT in the new VFR, and it's nothing like the auto-shifters in race bikes.

    Anyhoo, that's just my $0.02

Motorcycles should have a damn clutch lever!!
Rode the auto and it was "ok" but a little weird in slow parking lot maneuvers etc. Could prob get used to it but again a motorcycle should have a clutch lever IMO

Hello and always heard the Auto had a bit to be desired. Beyond that I can't help you with them. I have a Gen 3 2015 FJR which has been a blast. Fun bike to ride, fairly comfortable but will probably need risers and a new seat. Factory seat sucks and with my height, put a set of risers on mine for comfort. Good Luck with hunt and there are plenty of good bikes out there. Look on the FJR1300 forums for plenty of info also.
