I have been looking into buying salvage bikes, repairing them, and reselling them for a hobby/possible future full time business if it went well. I have been researching and researching on the licenses required to make this happen and I come up empty handed when it comes to bikes. Per Ga law, a motorcycle is not considered a motor vehicle, and all the dealers licenses information I have found is for used motor vehicle. I also know that you have to be a licensed rebuilder to resurrect a salvaged motor vehicle for it to pass inspection (if you build more than 2 a year). But I have not found anything about rebuilders license for motorcycles. From what I understand the secretary of state regulates the sale of motor vehicles, but not the sale of motorcycles and the department of revenue issues motorcycle dealers licenses. Can anyone help me out with information before I play phone tag with the state? Thanks in advance. And a little back ground on me, I graduated with a diploma in automotive collision repair, although I have not done auto body full time in 14 years, I dabble in it from time to time on my own stuff and friends stuff and have been working on my own bikes for about the same amount of time.
Copart tells you the low down. If you are in one of the states that requires you to have a license you can buy from a different state that doesn't require it. There are alot of bs fees on copart but they tell you what they are. Pretty sure you need some sort of business license if your doing it for profit. That i dont know anything about..
I will be getting a business license, but my question is how to obtain a motorcycle dealers license and do I need a rebuilders license for bikes? I was at copart in Austell yesterday and what they told me were the laws on cars, not bikes. Pretty sure I'm not eligible for a rebuilders license if it is required for bikes.
