Trackday Equipment Question?

I would ask why you would want to use this on the track and second I would guess that is a big no! Oil or lubricants and track surfaces do not get together well! Thu do not play nice together!

 

As far as I know, there is nothing specifically written in the rules regarding an automatic chain oiling system.....in fact, I don't know that it's ever come up before. By the looks of it, it appears to be pretty easy to mount and remove from the bike. I would suggest removing it before going to the track. I'm thinking that if items like valve stem caps are required, wheel weights being taped, etc., there probably is not going to be automatic chain oilers allowed on track. Better to be safe than sorry, and honestly, you would have time between sessions to lightly lube your chain manually.

 

You can and should just turn it off.
Drain the oil from the can, you don't want to be THAT guy who closed the track for one, two or more sessions while they cleaned the track.
OH, welcome and be prepared to have MORE fun than you have yet to have on two wheels.
That is if you can deal with not being the best rider on the track. LOL. I'm still getting over that several years later.

 

Pro teams don't use them while racing, I personally don't see the need at a track day . But that's my opinion. Seems a bit over kill

 

Why even have one of those??? If your putting in 2000 miles a day from Alaska to Cape Horn I could see it... But seriously... If your too lazy to clean a chain once in a blue moon you shouldn't be on the bike anyhow IMO... Sorry rant over... So with that said welcome to the madness David... To be fair, the bike in his avatar looks like a Multistrada with a luggage rack, so I imagine it's a touring bike first and a track bike second.

 

And, to be fair to all the other riders on the track at the same time with him, no need to have a potential oil hazard introduced to the track when it really doesn't need to be on the bike for track use.

And, my hat's off to David for asking the question before showing up at tech with the oiler on the bike. It still amazes me at the number of bikes that show up at tech and not properly prepared/teched to the level required for the group they are riding in, especially when the STT website has the criteria clearly posted. Remember, the posted track rules and tech requirements are time proven methods to help promote safety for everyone on the track. Thanks for asking about it David.

 

People would not believe some of the crazy stuff we've seen pull up to tech, with the intent of riding it at triple digit speeds on the racetrack. I second Vern, PLEASE read the tech rules and FOLLOW THEM. Nobody likes being a tech Nazi..except me maybe

So you oil the track and several dozen guys that drove all night and spent a couple hundred bucks to have a great day at the track are now sitting around in 90 degree weather in their cow suits - and pointing at you.

2. He DID ask.....and that is how we all learn things, by asking questions.

 

Absolutely, no way anyone should be getting on him, he came and asked a legitimate question, nothing wrong with that at all.
