I am going to attend the MotoGP race at Road America on June 2-4. I also plan on doing a track day the following Monday. If I camp out there can I bring my vehicle and bike to the camp spot? I have never done this so I have no idea how it is setup. For those that have attended this event is the camping area decent? Showers? What else is there to do on the grounds during and after the race? How long are the races?

It would be in all the headlines if MotoGP came to Road America! That would be AWESOME!

It's the MotoAmerica (formerly AMA) series.

I'm sorry I can't answer how the camping will work while the races are going on, but you'll need to get a schedule and pay attention to when the races happen. They have practice and qualifying at different times of the day, intermingled with the racing.

I seem to remember from the car races that the camp sites were big enough for a vehicle to park, at least the ones inside the carousel. Check the map when buying a site and they probably give you some guidance.

You will just move to the Pits Sunday PM after the races... Just make sure you go to the gate after setting up your pit to get your credentials and sign the waiver.... No pit bikes allowed for MotoAmerica BTW.. They have to be licensed vehicles or a rental golf cart.., we do those every year.. Camp in the Blue lot for a good nights rest and the Orange lot if you want to stay up all night....

I think it would be a great track for them, but I'd always heard it wouldn't happen because of the lack of infrastructure to handle all that international traveling circus.

Not enough run off at Road America for the FIM MotoGP guys to run and the paint at Road America is slick as ice when it's wet. If you've never been to Road America the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to bring a scooter. The place is huge and getting around on foot or even bicycle is a PIA. Have a good time, watch the pros run and then get some track time in. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down.

Yes, you can take all your stuff to your camp area during the MotoAmerica event. After the event, you will likely need to leave the facility and check back in for the track day. Which isn't terrible, because you'll want to move to the paddock area for the track day anyway. This is the area along the front straight where all the team rigs are located. This is how the process usually goes.

If you intend to move around the facility during the race weekend, you'll need a bicycle or a motorcycle with valid registration and insurance. It's hit or miss if you'll be able to ride around on your track bike or pit bike without tags. A bicycle is required, but still a lot of work.

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll be there Thursday to Wednesday likely with the Westby / Lamkin team for the pro races and coaching for the track day event.
