I'm thinking about going to Grattan 5-20/21. Doesn't seem to be a lot of activity on the forum for upcoming trackdays?

This would be my lst event with STT. Did my lst track event at Grattan with Team Chicago to get my race license back in '93.

What's the turn out like on a good weather weekend nowadays?

I'm looking forward to going for sure.

There were many event's sold out over last summer. I'm not 100% sure but it's either 35 or 40 per group. 3 group format Novice ,intermediate and advanced. As the even't gets closer there will likely be a little more activity but with facebook most people are chatting there

Hi motoracerx, welcome to STT and hopefully your first event with us at Grattan soon! Be sure to check out the STT webpage if you have any questions about the event format, bike/tech requirements, or anything else. If it's not covered there, feel free to ask us here.

Most likely there will be a dedicated forum post started sometime within the next week for the May 20-21 event at Grattan. It will detail some of the info about event such as facility gate opening/closing times, registration, tech, and riders' meeting times or other various info.
Typically the events will sell out, especially when the forecast is favorable. Online registration will usually close about 48 hours prior to the event, even if it is sold out. You can still register trackside, but it may cost more, I don't remember the specifics.

If you are pretty certain you'll be attending I would purchase the day(s) ahead of time just so you don't get left out.

Does the track have a tire service? Or does STT have a tire vendor at each or some of the events?
I plan on bringing my own tires but will need some tire changes for sure.:

edit: I'm reading now that STT does indeed have tire service with Michelin tires. So this tire service is available at every event/track?

Sooooo, how do you get into the advanced group? Is this up to staff to determine skillset?

For instance if I go out in my lst IM session of the day, do I request a CR to follow me around or what not and they can decide if i can or should be bumped up to Advanced?

Typically, STT has tire service at every event. You'll see a forum post a few days prior to the event going over some of the event specific items and usually it will identify if there is tire service available. More often than not, Sportbike Tire Service (STS) will be available at Grattan and other venues for your tire needs, whether it is purchasing tires, mounting them (on or off the bike), or questions you might have. In the case that the STS is unavailable there may be an outside vendor at the event.

Yes, this is up to the Staff to evaluate you and your skillset. My suggestion would to talk with one of the coaches after the riders' meeting or once you grid up for the first session. Tell them you want an evaluation. I would wait to do this after a couple sessions. If it's cool in the morning Grattan can be a little slick until the track warms up. Give yourself a session or two to warm up - physcially and mentally, so when you go out with the coach you'll be comfortable with the track conditions.
Remember, this isn't a race, you don't need to try setting a lap record while you're out in front of us. Show us how smooth, predictable and consistent you are. :)

Do you hold a current Expert race license with Wera or CCS?
In some Orgs this will let you register in the advanced group, but I'm not sure about STT.
Might want to call and ask.

You'll want to call STT (Crystal) at 1(888) 390-4020

Thanks Steve....I did call, but it was probably after hours. I left a VM.

I went ahead and paid up. I usually do wait til the last minute due to wanting to see the latest weather forecast. I'm a fair weather rider at this stage of the game.

I don't mind being in the IM class for a session or two until, if or when, Staff decides to bump me up. But i would definitely prefer to be in the Advanced group. But whatever the Staff decides is fine. It's their game, their rules. I'll just be glad to be turning some laps.

Just be prepared that there is NO guarantee you'll be able to move up to advance, if A is full.

I’m not saying this is you and your case is diferent, but there are some who wait too long to sign up and the group they want is full so they sign up for a lower group and assume they will get to move.
