Hey all, Heading to Barber from Wisconsin for the 3/25 track day. First time to Barber and I'm stoked. I blew all my money on my bike and don't have a fancy camper...wondering if there are grass areas for tent camping and if they might let me hang around and camp again on Sunday night. I'd like to hit the museum Monday morning. If not, I'll look for a place to stay close by. Thanks everyone! BK
Yes tent camping up on the hill outside the paddock, if you need to sink stakes. You would probably need to ask the Barber folks about staying over till Monday. They require the paddock to be cleared after an event is over, not sure about the tent camping area. There is a Hampton Inn right outside the track that is nice.
Sunday night would only be in Lot G if granted permission.... Up on top of that hill there are no Bathrooms or power... Also watch out and don't set your tent up on a sprinkler head... That happened to someone who shall be un named and it was the funniest story I heard in awhile... Isn't that right PJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
99% of the time we’d have to vacate the paddock by 7pm on the last day of the event (usually Sunday). For this event, we are welcome to stay in the paddock Sunday evening, and on Monday we can spectate at the MotoAmerica test.... all for free. If you stay plugged into power with a camper it will cost one more night of power.... Barber will waive the camping fee for Sunday night for anyone who stays. I’ll post up more on this later.... but it’s gonna be fun.
Usually, I stay at a hotel during track days at Barber. This year, I’m going to tent route and getting the full experience. I’ll be staying for Monday as well.
How was the tent experience there? I was told no open flames at all onsite when I called the enquire so I wasn't sure on choosing trackside, hence we went for Knox Landing about 30 minutes away (20 p/n and nice and quiet, campfires ok, power and water hook per site). I'd much preferred to have stayed onsite for sure, so would like to hear what you all got up to and how/if you cooked there. All the best
Dom, You’re missing half the fun if you don’t stay at the track. We all sit around and tell stories (lies ) about that one time we almost kept up with Jason Disalvo etc.
Almost? I lapped him twice in 2014! As he was taking his students around for sighting laps...... Then I busted my ass in Turn 2....
Staying in the paddock was fun, but frankly the tent camping was not ideal. Barber folks wanted people to camp IN the paddock, rather than in the normal grass areas for camping outside of the paddock, but there were not any good spots to pitch a tent in grass, due to terraces. At least not that I could find when I showed up late on Sat afternoon. I wound up pitching my tent at the back of my pit on the pavement. I had some weights along for my awning, and put those in the corners of my tent instead. Not ideal with the wind on Sunday night, but it worked out. I think there were one or two other guys with tents pitched on the pavement as well. I was worried about rain water running under my tent on the pavement, but thankfully the rain was light. Regarding cooking, I brought along a Jetboil (backpacking) stove and the wife pre-made some stir-fry and chicken taco meat. Just heated that up on the Jetboil and had a great meal on both Sat and Sunday night.
