Finally after many track days I got moved into I group. I was having a good time in Novice but they wanted me to move so I guess I have to. Now I'm like wanting to know what to expect, what to safety wire and how to do it, any thoughts and/or advice plz!
the stt website can answer all your questions http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/track-day-regulations.html Congratulations! Start out in the back of the pack and ease yourself into the faster pace, don't try to over do it! Smooth is fast, I learned the hard way. Use the coaches, the STT staff is the best in the business. Stop, ask, and listen to them. They always have great advise. I like to watch some youtube videos of the A riders at the specific track that I will be going to. I have a copy of the track in front of me and I take notes of track. They will brake and turn at different markers than you and me. It just gives me a little insight of what to expect at the track.
+1 at starting at the back of the pack. once again smooth = fast Same as novice, Have Fun , it's not a race.
Grab a coach during tech or before your first session and have them take you out. "I" coaches are there just for that reason. They can ride that session with you or the whole day if you want. Are you coming to Atlanta?
I will definitely start out in the back of the pack. I'm a little nervous about I to be honest. I know I rider should be more skill so if I'm too slow I'm sure they have no problem going around me. I will talk to one of the coaches, they're awesome so I feel good about that. I will try watching videos from I and A riders hoping I won't get more nervous cause they go fast!
I'm not going to Atlanta. It was on my calendar fir this week but since I did mid-simmer weekend at Autobhan I went over my budget. I'm waiting for labor day weekend at ACC again but this time the full course. Ever been at ACC or plans of coming sometime?
You will be fine, if the STT coach bumped you up, be confident you are ready. I have been told to get with a coach and try out for "A". I am nervous and excited. The only way to improve and get better is to keep moving up in class and listen to those who are. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE OTHERS AND YOU SLOWING THEM DOWN, THAT IS WHY WE DO NOT HAVE MIRRORS. JUST MAINTAIN YOUR LINES AND THOSE BEHIND YOU WILL DEAL WITH IT. PASSING IS OTHER SKILL YOU GET TO WORK ON NOW. IT IS JUST ANOTHER FUN FACET OF RIDING. COACH K3 GIVES A GREAT LECTURE/LESSON ON PASSING TECHNIQUES. RELAX NOW YZFROOKIE AND ENJOY THE I GROUP, WELCOME!!
Its about time! ;-) If your going to be at ACC labor day weekend, grab me and ill go out with you. But you did really well. Stay out of Novice and congrats!
I know what your feeling. I finally got the go ahead for intermediate after Putnam. I had already signed up for the 3 days at ACC, so I guess I'll be soaking up the instructors in novice for one more weekend. I've never been on the soutch course, so it probably wouldn't hurt anyways. I think my mind is what was holding me back. Always worried i was holding up traffic, even when no one was behind me. But I had a few instructors at putnam pass me and give me a thumbs up (I think that was the finger), that helped my confidence issue.
Don't be too nervous about getting bumped up. Look at it this way; as you get into faster groups the riders around you are less likely to do something unexpected. As you get around faster riders the most striking thing will become just how CONSISTENT they are. I was nervous the first day after both bumps and both times I ended up wondering why I didn't do it sooner! You'll progress so much more when you're following riders who are closer to your pace or just a bit faster than you rather than "winning" a slower group.
We run a voluntary school in Intermediate. The subject matter is geared to a faster pace than the lessons you learned in Novice. Same classroom, first three sessions of each day, right after you come in off the track. Join us!
You fellow riders are completely Right and K3 I was not aware of that. I'm definitely going to do so. Back potector right?
When do you ride next? Get with me and I'll bring you up to speed. I ride yellow/white/black #333 and it says "K3" on my vest. I teach the I class and at Autobahn I always pit by pit in for North Course. Green Chevy Dually and the huge red TrackdayMag.com trailer.
I was pitted right next to you at Putnam on Sunday! Damn it! I could have used some schooling. NoBama 2012
You got bumped because you earned it. Just learn to relax and have fun. You'll be slower than some, and faster than some. Take advantage of the coaching.
Not just me, man. Anyone with a vest would be happy to help any customer, or else find the coach best suited to the need. Hey, some of us can't keep with some of you!
