May want to ask your insurance if they even cover track days to begin with. Most will find any reason not to pay you.

Make sure they understand you're not racing and maybe explain it as a sort of motorcycle training course. Call it a skills building course or training, whatever the buzz words are.

Make sure you tell them, It is NOT a timed event.
There is NO racing. No first place, no ribbons.
To date, not one has said they wouldn't. But having said that, my track bike is not insured.
    With the detectable, why bother.
If it wasn't a 2006 might change that.

As already mentioned....its not a race. That's the first thing you will have to clearly tell them. Its a instructional event with instructors.
Geico told me as long as there is not purse or its not a timed event, that I would be covered.

I also record all my conversations that may come back and question.

I simply tell them that they are being recorded for quality and training purposes. hahahah

Now I have a record of them confirming I was covered for such an event.

Check with your Insurance company for sure.....some will and some won't. I have Allstate on everything....house, car, truck, motorcycles and when I started with them, my bike(s) were covered for track use (not racing though). Then about 4 or 5 years ago, they sent out an update to the terms of service and any bike that is used on any track for any reason is NOT covered.

State Farm has been unwavering in stating that they will not cover me. I dropped coverage on my bike completely. But, much to my dismay, they could not come up with even basic theft/fire coverage for the bike. I kept telling them 'what do you do do for riding lawn mowers, jet skis, or snowmobiles?' - but they just make a lot of noise signifying nothing of value. So, I have absolutely no coverage at all on my track bike because my insurance company can't figure out how to charge me.

I've been wondering about this. Called Progressive and the rep told me "We absolutely do NOT cover anything on a track".
Guess I'm buying more protection for the bike!

Yep, it's not the same coverage anymore. It specifically states you are NOT covered, with "excessive speed" This has been on State Farm and Nationwide.

You could possibly try Dairyland, Rider, or Foremost. They are all bike specific companies.

Might want to talk to a different agent. I have State Farm and my track bikes carry comprehensive only to cover for theft/fire/etc.

I have Dairy land and all my bikes are street legal and have full coverage.
I had a incident at a Advanced ride skills class at barber a few years back and they took good care of me.

Thanks all. Some good feed back so far. I dont want to ask my insurance company just yet. As i dont want it to bring up any red flags to them at this time and them want to change something on me because of it. Still looking to hear from maybe some more people have crashed on track and what they did and who they are covered by. (Ex: did you tell them u where on track or did you report that it was incident in garage?)

Yes, I believe if I carried comprehensive that they would insure me but last time I checked that was pushing $50 a month. I just wanted to insure it like a piece of property, not with all of the additional coverage that comes with "comprehensive". I wasn't looking for them to cover damage at the track or health coverage - just primary wanted fire and theft. I would have expected fire and theft coverage to have been around (total guess on my part based on what I pay for other property insurance) less than $200 a year. But you are correct that I could get what I want if I were to pay them ~$600 a year. At least, I think so. I say that because when I had such coverage they just couldn't state emphatically enough that this would not cover me at the track (the comp). But perhaps that was their ability to clearly articulate themselves or me to understand what they were trying to convey. At present, when I asked what would happen if my trailer is stolen with my bike in it, they tell me it will fall under my property insurance policy: fingers crossed.

Regardless of what your agent tells you, always read the actual policy. Some agents know what they're talking about, others only know what their commission looks like.

I have crashed at the track., but never thought of claiming it on the insurance. Farm Bureau won't even insure my bike. I have to go through Geico but only have comprehensive not collision. You would have to lie and say it was somewhere else and get a police report then your on the hook for a false report. I feel you should think about the crash and how to prevent it while your building it back.

Hmmm..that seems pretty excessive. Don't know your bike or the state you are living in but I think I pay like $18 for 6 months on my GSX-R600. I know if depends on a lot of variables but $50 a month sounds more like collision than comprehensive. Either way, I certainly wouldn't pay $600 a year either...

My apologies, I think the problem is that I don't know insurance terms. Also, I checked and I was paying $41 a month. The $41/month was for full coverage, my mistake.

full coverage= comprehensive, (fire, theft, animal impact, storm damage vandalism ect...) and collision (your fault or someone else's while the auto (cycle) is not legally (fully) parked.

comprehensive only= fire, theft, vandalism. consider this storage only insurance. if you have it on a trailer, or in a truck, while being towed for transportation for any reason, with comp only... it is NOT COVERED, by the truck or trailer insurance. and is not covered by comp only if damaged while being transported.

limited collision= you are covered if it is NOT your fault but, not covered if it is your fault.

pl-pd= (personal liability, property damage) coverage only, it is a bare minimum, and only covers damage to other property you may damage with your actions on the insured unit. it doesn't cover your unit at all.

get your agents statements of "you are covered" in writing, and or recorded. they may "think" they know the policy and what is covered but, most do not know. never take an agents word for, you are covered, or we cannot cover that... EVER. follow up with corporate, even if you have to talk to an underwriter. underwriters KNOW what the policy covers. agents, sell policies, and collect commissions from your premiums. (middle man). they don't not "write coverage's" or policies. underwriters do that.

some companies cover "riders schools" and "advanced training" damage, as a normal auto accident. just understand no matter what, if you turn a track day accident in to your provider, you are at fault, and your rates WILL be going up. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGENT TELLS YOU.

don't lie, don't hide things from the provider. they WILL find out, and insurance fraud is worse than a drunk driving on your record, with the insurance INDUSTRY (YES, IT IS AN INDUSTRY), AND NO PROVIDER WANTS FRAUDULENT PEOPLE IN THEIR EXPOSURE RATINGS.

If you cant afford to fix, or replace your bike on your own... you may want to evaluate how much you want to put that bike on the track. Ski
