Peggy and I still both love riding on the street. Of course, living where we live helps the enjoyment factor a lot. We both have street bikes, she's got a '07 600RR and I sold my DorsoDuro for one of the new Yamaha FZ09's. When it gets into the cooler/colder months, and sometimes during the summer months, we will ride two up on the ST1300. It's perfect for long distance (we did an Iron Butt two up on it), it's got pretty good wind protection, and we've both got heated gear. I simply cannot imagine NOT riding on the street anymore. We have lots of great roads to ride here in E. TN, North GA, and N.C. and the scenery and beauty of the land is just a sight to behold.
I actually got out and rode today. Temps above 50. Rebuilt brakes on street bike, so I had to get out and road test. Realized I still like riding on the street, but it seemed a little scarier than I remember. The track certainly puts a different perspective on street riding.
Definitely. When on the street I assume that everyone is trying to kill me. On the track they are just trying to pass!
I can't imagine not riding on the street - an hour after work a few times a week is the only thing that keeps me moderately sane. But street riding is just staying loose until the track days arrive. Nothing replaces those magic days! Now the painful wait until April.
I used to ride only street. Then I was introduced to STT back in July. maybe been on the street 3 times since then.
Same here, all street (or dirt when I was much younger) until last year when I started doing track. Still ride street when I can, got a 2008 custom Aprilia Tuono and a 2013 GoldWing Hondolounger that I recently had Performance Cycleworx install Traxxion suspension on. Both will take your breath away, or is it only when you come around a curve and a red truck is in 3/4 of the way in your lane?? I'm up in the foothills of the Smokey's so great roads everywhere within 100 miles of the house! HJ
I got out for a ride here in Chicago yesterday (Dec 1). Was a pretty nice day and figured the bike would enjoy a little exercise. Too much traffic to really stretch it, but made sure to pop through all the gears a few times. I'm hoping for a freakishly warm day at least once a month through the winter to do that.
I will ride a motorcycle whenever I can. I would love to do more track days, but riding the CB to work or my wife's Shadow 750 on the weekends is a different kind of enjoyment. I picked up a dirtbike so I could keep riding in the winter.
Still ride on the street, mostly on Sunday afternoons, try to get in 80-100 miles with a few other riders, will pull the old HOG out on bike nights too. Main thing is I don't push it on the street, never had a knee down on the street, well at least not yet!!
I've only done two track days, but I purchased a track bike and still have the fz1 for the commute. We will see what the following season brings for the street.
it's not official yet but i've got a new job lined up that's about 6 miles from home, currently i have a 40 mile commute one way. i'll also work 6am-3pm, so i'll be ahead of both rush hours. if it works out i'll pick up a used, probably beatup, triumph scrambler or bonneville and use it as my daily rider in the spring/summer/fall...
I still ride on the street. Always have, always will. If i go too long without riding, i get very irritable. I enjoy being on a bike, no matter what or where. Racing, track days, mountain roads, long distance trips...doesnt matter to me.
I love bikes and bike culture so much, I still have a street bike. I love going to bike nights, and just hanging out with friends. Problem is finding people to ride with who feel the same, and don't need to ride at dangerous breakneck speeds to have fun. My circle of street riding friends gets smaller every year, so much so that I only rode about 2500 miles all last year. This brings me to the thought of selling my street bike every year. almost no point in paying tag fees and insurance. BUT, when you gotta make a run all the way cross town, so much better on 2 than in the cage. I'll probably do 10-15 track days in 14, so its not like I'm NOT riding.
Same for me, but I have never considered not having a street bike. If there is nobody around to ride with I really enjoy a solo ride.
I actually prefer to ride solo on the street (unless Lora is going to ride with me). For some reason when sportbikes get together, asshattedness occurs. I don't ride like an idiot on the street. Well over 100k miles and have never gotten a ticket (knock on wood). I dont pop wheelies, do burnouts or even drag knee on public roads. I just enjoy being on a bike.
