Hey guys. Last year I bought a Bell RS-1 for both road and track use. While the helmet fits perfectly and is fantastic for the road, I am having some issues with it on the track. When I reach turn 8 at Grattan, due to my body position and the angle of the turn, the helmet cuts off half of my vision, same goes when I do a complete tuck. Every session I did something different to try to fix it but no dice. I concluded that I need a taller opening in order to see the turn and the tuck. Can you guys recommend some helmets that have wider openings and thus better visibility for the track?
I watch a lot of YouTube vids and Marcel Ernie is one of my favorites. In one of his vids he was raving about how much view his Schuberth helmet has. Of course he is sponsored by Schuberth but he seemed genuinely excited with his new helmet and how much better he could see with it. I'd suggest going to Cycle Gear and trying them all on and see for yourself. No pun intended, lol!
just curious, when you put your helmet on, do you slide it all the down to your brow? Or let it rest a little further up on your forehead?
I've seen several threads on this forum regarding this issue. From what I remember AGV helmets have wider openings
By default I let it rest on my forehead. I kept seeing if I could rest it higher or lower but I still ran into the same problem.
I have the same issue. I had been using a Bell RS1 and Bell Star. I borrowed a Shoei RF1100 and found that I was able to see better through the long sweeping corners when looking up through to top of the eye port.
My new Shoei had that issue... I added some Battery Foam that came in a Shorai Kit and stuck a strip on the top.. Problem solved... Recomended By Robbie Sobotka If I am no mistaken....
On my bell star, I had been positioning it just above my brow, and realized that I had a hard time seeing down the track when in a tuck. Thicker pads, and positioning it higher up on my forehead fixed it for me. Good luck finding your solution
I had this same problem, picked up a Scorpion Exo-R2000 and the visibility is now perfect. Just for reference, I drop my head really low (too much too soon imo), and it is great + cheap.
Also have an EXO-R2000. I've never noticed the size of the viewport, which means it hasn't been a problem for me. I usually only notice my gear when it's irritating me, so the fact that I don't really notice the R2000 is a decent testament.
For my head and eyesight, the AGV Pista or Corsa helmets give me more viewing space than my Arai with 1/2 inch of foam in it. Plus the AGV is cut a bit higher in the back so it doesn't catch on your leathers when you try to turn your head. Never tried Schuberth, maybe I will now.
I have used an Arai Corsair V for years. It has a wide opening. It works very well at turn 7 at VIR which is a fairly sharp turn up a steep hill. It allows me to see the brake marker and focus on the turn-in point without having to reposition my head. I highly recommend it. I know it is not cheap but it has saved my life one time, it has great ventilation and is very comfortable. I think to a certain extent you get what you pay for.
Shark makes a helmet with a specifically wide opening called the Vision R http://www.shark-helmets.com/produc...&langue=UNITED STATES UNITED STATES - English
I had the same problem with my Bell, I found that my back protector (Knox) was creeping up and affecting my head positioning. I make sure my back protector is pushed down before I put on my helmet. Made a difference for me.
I just want to thank you guys for your amazing responses. I'm going to go try the AGV Corsas the Aria Corsairs and the Scorpion. I want to see which one will fit my head better before I make the final choice. Now I'm just going to use my Bell for street riding. Its still comfortable plus it took me forever to find one with the steampunk design on it! Thanks again!
