we are out for the grattan weekend. our truck did the famous gm 5.3 litre cam and lifter failure (thank god for warrantee). they fixed it, we drove it to northern ontario to ride snowmobiles and fish for the last weekend of walleye fishing..... the truck lost all oil pressure, (oil pump failure) in the driveway of our rental home in dubreuilville ontario. thank god we were not on the road. they towed the truck to the local gm dealer in wawa (50 miles away). unsure if we will be home or not until they get us a rental/loaner, or fix the truck. at least we can fish for walleye one more day before it closes. we had LOTS of new snow friday and saturday. the trails are AWESOME for april 13th. LOL! heading out riding and fishing again soon. sorry guys i dont think we will be riding till june. Ski
Well that stinks...would you like me to break in Lynn's new 636 for her at Grattan...I'll be gentle :wheel: Hope you guys get home safely...see ya in June! :thumb:
lynnes bike still needs the exhaust fabbed and fitted, and the bazzaz qs4 installed. you can do that for us if you want. LOL! Ski
Eric - That sucks! Sorry to hear the news. Thinking I might leave the R1 at home for that weekend. Maybe bring the supermoto bike (with the ice tires just in case.) What were you guys running for gearing on your 450's out at Grattan? Pretty sure 60mph on the straight isn't gonna be enough. : )
no news on the truck yet, hoping to find out when we can return home today or tomorrow. i ran 15-38 on the yamaha 06 yz450f (5 speed gear box). i would run half to 3/4 throttle down front straightaway, out of the race line to stay out of the bigger bikes way. then get on it, for the remainder of the track. you'll be suprized at the lap times you can pull, due to the corner speeds, and higher power to weight ratio, on the lighter supermoto. also check on the wera board for gearing suggestions, and or talk to Geoff at gp tech. I'll be there on Saturday. First time back on the track in 4 years and it will be the maiden voyage for my new to me Speed Triple. For these reasons, I will be starting over in Novice, but it will still be a blast with the awesome STT coaching staff. See you all there.
Eric - Are you sure you were running 15 - 38 ??? My bike stock is 13 - 48. That would be one CRAZY gearing change!!!
yamaha has different gearing but, yes... that was what i was running. call geoff. he runs some wild gearing on the moto 3 bikes, and the 450 super singles. he can point you in the right direction. Bob Watson (from your club) raced a honda 450 in wera and did VERY WELL. you can use his guideance too. remember.... you only have 1 quart of oil in the bike. the clutch plates will FRY from slinging oil off at wideopen for 4000' of front straight at grattan, IF YOU DONT MANAGE THE THROTTLE. I am ready for some grattan fun... it may be at the Grattan Bar, but fun is fun. We got lucky with awesome weather at Barber, so I will deal with a cooler start at Grattan! It cant be perfect every time out. Looking forward to seeing y'all there! J_T.. just because you cant run your "preferred pace" doesnt mean you can't learn a thing or two! First day out is about shaking off the dust and getting back into the groove!
I did about 28+ days last year so i can afford to miss a weekend. I dont enjoy the cold/cool weather, thats the beauty of paying to ride, picking which events you ride at. 45 & windy on sat and 54 around 3pm on sunday is a waste of my money, be it that im a sissy or whatever ppl want to call it, my rust doesnt shake off in the cold lol
It might be cool temps, but looking forward to getting out again and seeing all the faces from the north!
Just checked weather.com...... it just keeps getting better Sat Apr 20 Partly Cloudy 45 Chance of rain: 0% Sun Apr 21 Mostly Sunny 57° Chance of rain: 10% yeah baby....
Just as long as the track isn't under water. We've had 4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours and the ground was saturated before that. Everybody just bring your water wings.
