Looks like you have to pull fairly hard, so like Craig said I think it'd be hard to do accidentally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FxNh6Z-mTM&t=46

Good to know, thanks! Looks like I'm picking up one of these. I'm trying to decide which one, I see you have the MLV-C. I find it kind of weird that the race/track vest is more expensive and seems to have less coverage than the MLV-C.

I believe it takes 60 lbs to pull the cord. 5 seasons, 0 accidental deployemnts.

Thanks mate, one last question, does it hinder getting into full tuck at all? I'm emailing with someone at the Hit-Air distributor since I'm trying to decide whether to get the one you have or the race/track vest, and he's recommending the track one since the mechanism is in the back which theoretically means it should be easier to get into tuck, I just wanted to hear some firsthand experience about the other option.

I don't use the race/track one. Mine attaches in the front and I have no problems getting into a full tuck.

Mods, please sticky this post. Craig was actually helpful and straightforward, no signs of scarcasm or bitterness. Maybe his ID has been hacked?

FWIW I use the Leatt. I have noticed lately that it rubs the bottom of my helmet, but I blame the tight fitting coaches' vests (sleeveless shirts?) for not letting it fit correctly around the speed hump in my leathers. I don't remember it doing this with the old style (vented) vests.

It could be the extra tightness of the suit that is making the leatt not fit right. :lmao:

$389 for MLV-C, $450 for the track/race vest, and you can get $30 with a coupon code if you poke around ADV Rider (it seems in poor taste to outright post it).

if it saves one helmet it would be worth it.

Yep, only around the neck, and from what I researched, Hit-Air makes the airbag system in it, so price-wise I think the Hit-Air vests are a much better value as well since the MLV-C is cheaper and has more coverage.

  17. I recently started looking into these after a get off freaked my wife out. As long as it keeps me on the track and more safe I'm for it. Here is a link to the Spidi version at STG w/ a video.

I looked at the Safermoto version and I agree this seems like the better option simply because it offers greater coverage over the Spidi. However it doesn't appear to be as tight around the helmet as the Spidi version after watching a few of their videos on youtube. I've see the Spidi one for $510-600 and the Safermoto "race" version goes for $450 ($420 if you can find that coupon mentioned above). I'd like to see how both hold up during a slide but in the end $500 is cheap insurance even if it only works for one get off.

It appears there is also another version from Helite. (Found via the ADVrider forum).

Draik has had slides with his zip-style Safermoto vest. We had to rpeace the zipper once, not hard or expensive and patched one spot on the cover of the canister pocket, also not a big deal. All in all it held up great over the three seasons he used his first one. The new one he has uses snap/buckles instead of a zipper. Crashed in it once already and didn't show any signs of wear.
