Hi Madi! I had my first track day after a month of riding so dont worry too much about being a complete newbie. Before the track day I put about 1000 miles on the bike, got comfy with shifting and the weekend before I went on a long ride that had alot of highway speeds (ok granted nothing over 60 cause I was freaking out!!!). And I had done a learn to ride class/weekend. I was the slowest person at my track day, with Juicebox/beth. Eventually we were put into our own super slow group within the novice program that day. But each session we worked on something more, each session we got faster and by the end of the day we were passed waaaaaaay less. Beth has even gone on in the last two years to make the jump to I and driven all around the county doing track days. ( I am still slow but still having fun). So work on the basics before your day, know that the Novice instructors will take very good care of you, dont ride over your head, but dont be afraid to push yourself a little either. Having now moved out of the STT area, I will say STT hands down has the best novice program east of the mississippi. Welcome to the addiction.
Thanks Winger! I am going to be woring on everything until we head to little tally. I heard it's a great track for a novice so I'm excited. I have my motorcycle basic/dafety course coming up in about 2 weeks so that will help me get more comfortable with handling the bike and being around people. I bought a straight track bike so its weird not having rear view mirros to check in on... Hope to see you at a track day. Thanks for the advice/support. -Madi
^^^ Track peeps only care what is in front, that is just extra stuff, and stuff that can flatten a tire if crashed.
Welcome to this wonderful sport Madi!!! If you haven't already, check out Sporktbike Track Girl on Facebook! Lhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Sportbike-Track-Girl/199952923364596 July 4 is our all Ladies track day at Grattan...Hope to see you there!!!
My husband and I are two of the very few people in the world without Facebook. Thanks for the invite though.
i am not a facebooker either Madi. here is an stt link to the same event. it is a ladies only track day at grattan in michigan. it is on the 4th of july weekend where you and the hubby could sign up and you could ride 3 days in a row, and he can ride both sat and sunday. the ladies day is a more relaxed, non-testosterone driven event. no worrying about men buzzing you at high speeds to set the next track record. i know it is a long way to travel but, the offer is there and the event is great for the ladies. the wife and i hope to meet you and your hubby, at barber in october. Welcome Madi! Sorry... to much of bike for no experience... You need to start with a smaller bike and go from there... Learn the basics as good as you can... time on the bike... I don't think the track will help you without the basics of riding...
^^^ Funny she has done 2 track days already, and thanks to the fine staff at STT events she has drastically improved her riding skills.
I concur with Vern. Was going to ask if you had taken the MSF yet (but when they talk about using the rear brake - and they will - that will be one of the things you must unlearn when on the track). Take the time on the remaining nice days of this year to complete the MSF and get some SEAT TIME. Some of the things you need to learn need to happen before you hit the track. Best of luck!
Welcome Madi! The 07 600rr was my first track bike as well! Welcome to the addiction, hope to meet you in 2015!
Seeing where you are located, I highly recommend you and your hubby go to Josh Herrings track on a non race weekend and ride a few of the rental bikes on his go kart track. You will learn a lot in a short time and then not be as stressed out for your first big bike track day. The rental bikes are like 9hp medium sized dirt bikes with street tires. They have all the same controls as a big bike in a lot lighter package. They run all winter it have a race about once a month. herrincompound.com
