We had a great time last weekend..... if you guys haven't been to this track you have to plan on it. t
Hey Trevor it was a great weekend minus my engine failure Saturday last session.... Gotta stop with the Ducati jokes at the riders meeting bad karma apparently for me lol
Anybody know what the lap times are at Nola for the fast guys? I was talking to a guy pitted next to me and he said he ran a 2:11 Saturday and was shooting for a 2:08 Saturday. So I had my wife time me Sunday and the best I could do was a 2:14. I saw on Youtube a guy running 1:49 I cant even imagine. His go-pro showed his speedo at 173 on the long straight before turn one.
My best there is a 1:54. I didn't even run a laptimer this past weekend, I just wasn't feeling it. Try not to get caught up in lap times. They can be a valuable tool, but for most novice to intermediates, it's just a dangerous carrot being dangled at them.
Didn't wear a timer, but I did see 178 indicated on the front straight - not true because i've changed sprockets...
Watching the video I notice how far spaced apart those brake markers are at turn 1, but they sure seemed to come up fast and be closer together in real life, even at the puny 135 max that my Buell "liter bike" will run. I can't imagine 170 must make short work of that straight.
That's what I'm thinking. I can get to the mid to upper 140's . I don't think I could process anything faster in my head to have to slow down in time for turn one. If I tried to hit 150 I know I'd blow turn one. I'll play it safe and tap out at 140.
I don't know what my 675r hits on the straight... maybe a buck forty? I'm always too busy getting my fat ass behind the windscreen to look..... You can see Keith motor me in this video.... Was really trying to aim for gas off on the back side of the access road.... got there later in the day.... t
My apologies. I'll try to cut back on the Duc jokes.... it's hard because they always get a laugh. The last time at NOLA with my Duc, I came away with this: so then, after NOLA I was doing this: t
You know T, I think on my bike at my speed, the front lip of the access road is a pretty good guess...when I have the guts to do it...which I never did this past weekend...I watched a rider go too deep on Saturday...but he was smart enough not to try for Turn one and took the runout... I caught myself every time with some room left...better safe that SORRY
Everybody knows not to use you speed as your brake marker right? Don't want the Nov and Int guys getting the wrong idea. If it was up to me I'd have the novice and intermediate guys tape over the speedo. When on the track you should be using: -rpm -gearing (what gear am I in) - and physical markings on or beside the track for brake and turn in markers Reasons not to use your speed. I'll use 140mph as an example of a speed someone might use at the end of a straight as their time to start braking. -first I'd prefer you were looking where you are going at 140mph not at the speedo -entering the straight at different speeds will affect how far down the track you will reach 140. A slower rider might mean you enter the straight at 10mph lower than normal. To make up that 10mph and still hit and indicated 140 you will be much father down the track and possible not make the corner. -sprocket changes affect the accuracy of your speedo. ICE RACER this isn't aimed directly at you just using your post as an example.
STEVE802CC Thanks for the great advice. I'm sure I've been told that before in a classroom session, but your explanation really sinks in. I'm DONE looking at the speedo. I'm taking your advice and taping over it. I've definetly looked at it waaaay to many times and went to deep into corners because of it. I'm taking all the advice I can get to be smooth and safe
On top of that you need to be looking in the turns at those speeds.... If you have time to look down at your speedo your not going fast enough... Use your periphial vision for Flashing lights and that's it.... Speed means nothing in a straight line...
Here's a vid from a couple of years back so you see I'm not feeding you a line of crap. Note my speedo reads zero the entire time because the speedo sensor has been disconnected. If I want my true speed I get it from a gps or I take my rpm and gearing from a vid and use www.gearingcommander.com. Very useful site btw. Good luck, be safe and have fun.
Agreed...The only reason I looked was to see what my speedo said because I just changed sprockets. Not using speedo to pick out the brake marker T and I were talking about; was picking a brake marker that was comfortable with me regardless of speed.
