I've got some Dunlop GPA-Pros mounted with 3 days on them. Two at Barber and one at NCM. Looking at the tires below would you run another day on them at NCM? Second question where can I buy Pirelli Race Tires? I'm going to try them for a upcoming school/race in July.

    Thanks,

    Josh

Yea they looked much worse at Barber but NCM seemed to clean them up nicely besides the slight tearing on the right side of the rear. It's crazy how blue they look from the heat.

You can buy them after I take them off Sam. I may do one more day at NCM on them though. So 4 days total. I want fresh tires for Putnam. No wrecking coming from me. Lol

Looking at that rear, you are coming really hard on the throttle on the exit...just remember not to get too jiggy with it..an extra pound or so might alleviate some of that...I personally think you have one more NCM day on them for sure.

Lastly Josh, since I know how you like to study, you need to look up Dave Moss. He can read a tire like nobody's business... Here is one of his short videos (you get the idea):

I had the same exact rear tire wear on the right side on my 600RR last year. This year I have an '08 GSXR 750 and have the same exact wear as my 600RR and the same as Josh's rear tire. In my best opinion, it's coming from the T5, the 120 MPH, knee on the deck, right hand sweeper. I tried bumping up the pressure 2 lbs.....didn't work. I tried bumping the pressure down 2 lbs.......didn't work.

I'd have to see them in person but it looks like there's lots of tread.
    I'd run them

since no one answered the Pirelli question, I will try. the race versions can only be bought at regional distributors. if you are in the south, James bock (I think podium motorsports) is your guy (https://m.facebook.com/Podium-Motorsports-Pirelli-202721673256676/).

stg (sportbike track gear) in Michigan has them as well.

make sure you are getting the sc V2 verisons, from whomever you choose to buy from... they are THE RACE TIRE

they are all called supercorsa sc BUT, the street tire is known as the SP, and is more cost effective but, not the same as a race tire.

make sure you choose your compounds wisely, they have sc0 (super soft for extra hot temp days), sc1 for most applications, and sc2 for cooler applications. you can mix and match to find what you like. personally I run an sc1 front, and sc2 rear for track days, and sc1 front and rear for race days. ski

I ride mine down to the wear markers and it doesn't look like those are quite there yet.

For the the older Michelin A/B/C compounds, I've heard run the C "Hard" for extra hot temp days. Sounds like there's no general rule of thumb between soft/hard compounds and ambient temps between tire manufacturers?

    Hey guys,

Just reporting back after my weekend at Putnam on the Pirelli Superbike slicks. I ended up running a SC1 front and a SC2 rear. Hot pressures off the warmer were 33 front and 25 rear and my wear was great.

I'm starting to think my suspension and geometry settings all came copied off a bike on Pirellis because the bike felt great. It felt better this weekend then it ever has.

The only mishap I had all weekend was I got the rear to spin up coming onto the front straight. I was trying to chase down Sam on his R1, I was probably alittle to aggressive on the corner exit. The Pirellis seem to be much more forgiving than the Dunlops though. By slowly rolling out of the throttle it worked its self back into shape and didn't throw me off. :)

Looking at the videos I ran 1:23s pretty constantly. I don't think that's considered "fast" but given the fact most laps had traffic and this was my first day ever at this track in my life I feel I did ok. Sub 1:20s should be pretty feasable. I really like Putnam though, the surface sucks but the track flows well.

    Nice.....

    EVERYONE!!!!!
Notice how when he passes going into turn 1, he DOES NOT sweep back to left across the rider he passed. He holds his line, reduces speed a bit more since the radius is tighter and turns in. KUDO'S!!!!

Far to much drama happens at track days when someone feels the MotoGP scouts are watching. People pass someone and then move over on the other rider so they can use the whole track. It's even works when the passing person then parks the corner and you nearly end up riding two up with them. It's a track day! Leave your fellow riders some room! If you didn't get the pass done as much as you thought or the other person is on a light weight and carrying way more corner speed, you'll both be much happier!

I only watched the first lap. Gotta nail those apex's in 5 and 7. Thats key to making that section 1 continuous arc. Once you make the apex for 5, WIDE OPEN down into the braking zone of 7, take 3-5 bikes in the braking zone because they didn't carry that speed. Then drive out!

I do recall making that type of pass on the outside in the grass once on my SV to 3 guys that thought it was fun to park my little lightweight in that corner and look back snickering. But I don't recommend that one as the grass has less traction and 7 is a tight turn :)

Thanks man! I did quiet abit of passing in that video. I think I passed 3-5 bikes at the same time going down the front straight at some point. I got the rear to spin up at the 3:00 mark. I really liked that track and apparently they are repaving it in Oct. At 3 hours from my house I'll forsure make a few trips there next year.
