Hey guys been wondering if someone can help. At track speed my bikes front end now wants to kind of shake/shudder very lightly but when i add some front brake its a very noticeable shutter usually happens above 80. I have looked at the rotors they seem to be straight forks are straight im not sure what else it could be.

Well i went and matt checked the rotors and their thickness and they seem to be in perfect shape. all the nuts are tight the steering damper is wiggle loose? Also im 80% sure that the shake is a forward and backward motion not side to side if that helps.

It's unfortunately kind of an involved process, but check your neck bearing. The bike's over 10 years old and you may as well replace that bearing while you're in there. I just did it to my 06 R6 over the winter.

How did you check for rotor straightness?

thats a good guess. Also to check the rotors you need to pull them off and put them on a piece of granite/marble/etc. you can also use a runout gauge if you have one

I'd check those too but I think it's a rotor. I had most of the same symptoms this year and it turned out to by a rotor.
Try swapping out the front rim and rotors with a known good one.

What part of town you in? I can rig up an indicator to check your rotors. I'm just west of speedway.

I have an 03 gsxr600 and had the same issue, it would shake at higher speeds and under braking. I pulled the upper tree and the two steering stem nuts were a little loose. I tightened them up and it felt 1000x better. I'd give that a shot.

I'm headed to the gun show tomorrow evening but weekend is pretty clear if you want to try to indicate the rotors sometime this weekend.

We couldn't feel any looseness in the head bearings. Maybe should have tried to hang an indicator on it somehow. I considered seeing if we could tighten them up a bit but I'm ways a little leery of "experimenting" on other people's stuff. Mine, I'd have already tried it!

Yes, top nut is just a locknut. Bottom one will tighten the bearings. Maybe should have seen if they were loose?

remove top nut, loosen the bolt that clamps the forks in place, remove top triple, tighten the steering nuts, replace triple, and tighten back down

ps. the stem just falls out when you remove the nuts under the triple. Dont go that far, unless you plan on fully inspecting, then pull the forks to make it easier. if you do happen to go that far, make sure to repack the bearing as they are lacking in lube from the factory

if you plan on replacing the bearing, get a good set of needle bearing instead of the balls that come from the factory. At this point you will need tools to remove and drive the races.
