I am trying to help a friend whose ignition switch does not work anymore on her track bike. The key has to be turned backwards from normal to turn it off and you can only take the key out when you lock the steering. The key also locks the front end the opposite way and when it is turned off the steering locks which makes it hard to move the bike. Over the last two track days numerous people have tried to figure it out. So we decided yesterday to just take the keyed ignition switch off, its a track bike anyways. So anyone know which wires to connect to a flip switch? Any recommendations? I never had to deal with this problem before. Help? Thank you, Bob
I know a few of us looked at it last month. I do have a service manual, if you want I can email it to you.
Ok, it's apparently too big to email. I will send you a link to the file in my dropbox when it finishes uploading.
my friend on his 04 had the same problem and ended up switching the tumbler backwards to make it work. So you turn the key to the left to turn it on
The ignition has a resistance built into it to prevent hotwiring, so if you're planning on bypassing the switch you'll need to include a resistor in your wiring (1k, I believe). Most guys just wire it so the kill switch turns the bike off. Or she can have mine when I finally get around to doing this mod myself
