Glad you found a track bike... no worries.. not disappointed. I wont even say "i told you so!" ( I will leave that for K3, or someone else :p )Hope to see you out again soon! But just remember, i am on a 600!!

Lance, you are killin me! Those pain meds must be workin good!!

Now that you have jumped in with both feet, PRACTICE RESTRAINT!!!!!!!!!! A Damper and bodywork are great investments. Brian at sportbiketrackgear.com can hook you up w/ hotbodies bodywork for about 450ish and i highly recommend the pit bull damper he carries. It is a top shelf component for sure, and will save your butt frequently!

You will hear a lot of things about the hotbodies bodywork... yes, it takes some patience to fit, and it is not the same level as Sharkskinz.... but it is also not a grand for a set! I use it and it is just fine for me.

Wow how things can change in a day. I'm no longer going to buy the 10R. My wife is pregnant! Yep, took the test last night and child #3 is on the way. She said I can still buy the bike if I wanted but I think I need to be responsible and not go drop $8K right now.

At least that's what the "adult" in my head is saying. The child is still having a hissy fit but he'll get over it. lol

I've been high on this new 10R for the last three days but now I'm high with the thought of another baby. It's OK though, I still have the 12 and I'll still be out there learning the track on it.

Boy how a day can change things.

Chris, congratulations to you and your family!

It was nice to meet you last week...I was the guy on the red SV1000 in the Novice group.

I've been reading this thread and there is a lot of good advice from some very experienced people. I was even going to make a pitch to you to buy my bike so I could make the switch to a 600/636.

I was riding in the group with Ann, jcirner's wife, and she was moving her 636 around the track very well. Following her helped me smooth some things out so I could keep up...I thought I'd split time between the track and street and wanted the extra cc's, L-twin, and ergos, for the highway...that hasn't happened. By the end of the day I was salavating for a smaller bike.

Anyway, just like you I'm out for the enjoyment of the hobby not to do battle on race day. I plan to begin making some mod's to my SV to make it a bit more track friendly. Suggestions from the fourm on where to start and best bang for the buck are appreciated.

Look forward to seeing you at Grattan on 7/23-7/24.

    -Jerry

GSXR 1K USD forks, a Penske or Ohlins shock, and spring it for your weight!

Track Coach Mike Kossi has his SV 1K set up that way. Sweet!

Thanks for the great ideas racerk3. There are a few GSXR 1K forks on ebay...I just might place a bid.

    Can anyone answer:

Will I need the GSXR 1K triple trees with the forks or will they fit with my SV trees? Oh, and what model year? I think 04 or 05.

I would shoot Kozy a PM to ask him... he has a sweet Gixxer set up on the front of his SV1k. I know he got the whole shot on EBAY, but i dont remember if the trees came w/ it or not.

Chris, CONGRATS on the news!! Although the inner child is probably still mad at you, your mature side is making a smart decision.... although the others are right... a used track bike can be had for much less than the latest and greatest, and usually track prepped already too! (just a little info to get the inner child all worked up again! )

Jerry, You'll need the gsxr triple trees, but you may need to swap steering head bearings. you will probably want to just get the entire front end, forks, trees, clip-ons, wheel, rotors, axle and brakes. it's possible that you may either need to lengthen the forks a little (race tech has a kit to do it) or get an offset trple clamp- the fork length may be different; if it is, that may negatively affect stability as it changes rake & trail. However, I'm not an authority on that, check over at svrider.org, someone there is bound to know for certain. the 04-05 gsxr has radial calipers and master cylinder, which are a vast improvement over the previous generation, not to mention what the offer as stock on the sv.

    good luck!

Which SV (650 or 1000) and what year?

If you have a 650, the 04 or newer GSXR 600 or 750 front end is what you want, not the 1K. You will need the complete front end: wheel, fender, rotors, calipers, forks, triples, etc. If you have a 99-02 650, you'll need a new steering bearing (Zoran at TWF sells them for $50). If you have a 03 or newer 650 no bearing is needed. The other option is to do the Traxxion kit for the stock forks. Depending on your weight, that may or may not be a better set-up unless you have the Gixxer forks resprung and revalved. I am 180'ish and the stock '04 Gixxer 600 front end was an improvement over the Traxxion set-up. For the rear, Penske is the way to go. In addition to the suspension, add stainless steel front brake lines, Vesrah brake pads, Woodcraft clip-ons, Woodcraft rearsets, and a lower seat (allows you to sit in the bike instead of on top of it). The SV is transformed by these mods. Here is what mine looked like before some jackass stole it:

If you have a SV1000, shoot Kozy a PM.

Anyone who thinks you can't go fast on an SV650, Try to follow Troy Stone around when he's out on his.

Plus the're cheep. I got mine for 1200 bucks. even after the new springs, shock, bodywork, tires and all the rest of the stuff I can't remember I was out the door for under $3,500.
