The very last session at Grattan yesterday I was going down the front straight with 3rd wound up to 14,500, shifted for 4th (with clutch) and somehow ended up in neutral/between gears/no gear engaged. Unfortunately, I didn't know immediately and ended up bouncing off the rev limiter. It was the last session and rider fatigue could very well be involved seeing as how my death-grip left hand had vibrated itself numb.

    Two questions from this:
    1. Did I mess up or is missing a gear like described and indication of an issue?
    2. Is there anything I should have checked or be concerned with due to the over-rev?

False neutral, happens once in a while, I wouldnt worry about the motor since you were upshifting. BTW you shouldn't be shifting with the clutch after first, these bikes were meant to be shifted without it, and you get a mean hand cramp!

I upshifted once clutchless and then the bike refused to do so for the rest of the day. Not sure if I wasn't unloading the trans enough or what my issue was. I can blip my downshifts some what well and heel toe a car, so clutchless upshifts shouldn't be something I have trouble with - but I did.

EDIT: by "for the rest of the day" I mean the 3 laps after the one successful attempt. I just gave up after that and went with what I knew would work.

Scott how's it going. Hope you had a blast. I'm the tall guy that was looking at you bike with you Saturday night.

About your bike, my guess is it's likely just fatigue or dehydration and you just didn't time the shift right or didn't pull hard enough on the shifter. I've had this happen when I get lazy or tired.

If you hit the rev limiter that means it did it's job and kept the motor from over reving. Shouldn't be a problem.:thumb:

It would be much more of an issue if you over revved it while downshifting.

Thanks Steve - I didn't get a chance to talk to you after the sessions yesterday, hope you had a good day on track. I had an amazing day that I will not soon forget. Some of the things I was doing (and feeling) by the 3rd session blew my mind. It was awesome to be able to get confidence and experience with my bike to understand (not just "know") that it is more than capable of doing whatever I ask of it at my skill level.
