If you were in the market to buy a new bike which would you choose, and why? It would be strictly for the track days and racing. More than likely left stock for a short time. Strengths? Weaknesses?

That's a tough question and depends on a lot. My wife went from an R6 to a 675. They are totally different animals and require totally different approach to riding them. R6 has more top end rush. A stock 675R will make 10 to 15hp more through the entire rpm range up to about 10,500 or so then the R6 takes over. The 675 is much easier to ride and less taxing on the body. The R6 is like a scalpel. The 675 requires a bit more set up but once set up has almost no equal.. What bike are you coming off of? A lot of people coming off a Honda 600RR favor the 675 due to its larger midrange. A newer rider will do better on a 675 because it's easier to ride. A seasoned pro will kick ass on either. Pick your poison.

^^ What he said. But I'll add personal experience.
The 675 has a lot more torque in the low rpm. Mine has 40lbs/tq @ only 3,000 rpm, on up to 50 lbs @ 10k. It is a lot skinnier in the seat, as well. The sound is intoxicating. The R6 will catch the 675 at the end of a long straight. The 675 is more of a corner carver than a drag racer. As Steve said, a seasoned veteran rider won't care.

I enjoy having something different, but the cost of that, is lack of parts. If you wreck, don't expect to have parts by the next weekend.

IF you decide on the 675, my recommendation is to get the 2013 or newer. It has more rpm (harder to catch), has titanium valves, has the rectifier recall resolved, and the heat exchanger won't lock up on ya. Not to mention it has 115hp stock (dynos vary). With a full exhaust, PCV, and air filter, you are looking at 125hp/53tq.

On that note, there are reasons why the R6 is winning races anywhere.

obligatory biased motto! 4 cylinders is one too many. :D

*NOTE* Before I get grilled for my post, throwing up power numbers is not an end all gospel, but just a guide of engine characteristics and what to expect.

i used to have an r6 and loved its handling and it was comfortable for even a big guy like me ... 6'4" ... my friend recently bought a daytona 675 and its not nearly as comfy, it sits so forward so its a nut buster on the street when u hit a bump, eager to try it on the track this year tho

I have ridden and raced both of them for years. Steve nailed it. Exactly what I was going to say, verbatim.

For most riders and especially newer riders, the 675 will be easier to ride. It is so light, narrow, with a lot of ground clearance, and that motor is so forgiving. A missed downshift isn't a big deal and you don't have to pay so close attention to the RPMs. It also has the best OEM braking system I have ever used (outside of Italian bikes).

The R6 is razor sharp, but it requires more attention and focus. Below 10k RPM it is a turdwaffle, you HAVE to keep the RPMs up. The R6 has a better top end and faster terminal speed (an R6 is the only MW bike that has logged a true 160mph top speed off the showroom floor, all the others are between 152-156mph).

I think the R6 has more ultimate potential, but it takes more precision to realize that potential. The 675 will be much easier to go quick on for most riders.

You can't go wrong with either of them. To be honest, the 675 is my favorite MW bike and I plan on getting another one soon. They are just so confidence inspiring. I couple of years ago I was racing the R6 full time, but had a transmission issue with it. I jumped on the 675 having not even sat on it in 8 months, and was matching my R6 times within 3 laps. They are just so easy to ride.

I'mccoming off of a Honda . I love my bike and I'veddefinitely learned to ride with the lack of power. I'vehad the same bike for almost 6 years now, and feel as though it'saalmost timeffor a new one. I love the look of a 675, still have yet to ride one to determine feel. I'm aalways chasing either bike no matter where I go si I'mnnot about to drop money into the Honda that's almost 10 years old.

My biggest concern with the 675 has been parts. I know they would cost a little more, and I really don't know how availabilitywwould work since Apex is always around. It's a tough choice for sure I'mjjust debating between the 2.

    Parts are not a concern.

I started racing a 675 back in 2009, and parts were widely available then. Mine was 100% race prepped with parts available from SportbikeTrackGear...and that was like 7 years ago. You can get parts for the 675 just as easily as you can anything else.

rear sets (especially if you want gp shift) and exhaust systems you will pay a premium for on the triumph.
    I have ridden 2015 r6 and my wifes 2010 Daytona 675
both very capable bikes. going fast on the Daytona is easy not hard to lug it around in third. (don't over rev the triumph)
R6 slightly more challenging since to really make it scream you need to be near redline.

both great bikes but I am tall and lanky so the 2013 zx6r is my new toy

Just made this choice last fall. I ended up going with the 2015 675r abs. The biggest reason was I could get the whole package with the Daytona right out of the box. The R6 I would have to add everything. I have done 1 track day last fall with it and really like it. It is different than my ZX6rr that I'd been riding for the past 4 or 5 years. The biggest differences I noticed between the 675 and my ZX6 were the 675 changes direction much faster, has lots more pull off the corner, the quick shifter works perfect, and the brakes are amazing. It was unbelievable to me how well the Brembos work. Crazy. The only thing I missed from the ninja was my quick turn throttle. Which I add over the winter along with rear sets, a bazzaz auto tune, and a slip on.

I really enjoy my Triumph, however it is a pretty well set up bike with a dan kyle linkage and Attack triples and all the other usual stuff. ( plus some motor magic from JD Hord) Which for racing means SB classes. If I were super cereal about the C classes/ middle weight I'd probably opt for a R6 or a Farrell 636 now. The Daytona is still a lot of fun, and at my level, it is not the bike.
A nice pic of some slow guys on Daytonas at Grattan

There is a trick to getting the quick turn throttle, and it's only about $12. Use the throttle tube from the same year Speed Triple (bought from the dealer). Changes it to a 1/5th turn throttle.

I went the MV F3 route for this season. Event more power than the 675R and great handling. Seems to be enjoying success in WSS.

800 or 675? I would love to have an 800.

I'm in the ZX-6R camp... I'm not aggressive enough to take full advantage of an R6, and the 675R is only a couple Arrow parts away from being R1 money.
