So I slept on registering for Grattan Sat, Sep 3rd. I usually ride "I" but it's sold out. I'ts available Sun, but I'm not able to ride that day. I'm considering riding "A" but not sure if I should or not. I'm on a stock motor SV650, with a best lap of 1:35. I ride smart and hold my line. Am I asking for trouble riding in "A"? I really need to get my moto fix, haven't been on the bike in little over a month.

If you're an I rider, you should stick to the Intermediate group. Unless a coach gives you the thumbs up to bump, it's really not a good idea to Ride in advanced. The difference in closing speeds can be a real hazard, both on the straight, as well as in the corners. The riders in Advanced have every right to think that they're riding with other Advanced riders- That means having tight, predictable lines, smooth throttle & brake inputs, being accustomed to close passing and more.

Grattan isn't a track that is forgiving on mistakes and I fear that you would be putting yourself and others in danger by riding in a group that you're not suited for. Sit this one out, mmmkay?

Heading to ACC Saturday. Would really rather be at Grattan, but hey, never been to ACC so at least it's a new track.

I can't disagree with what gigantic said. I ran in "A" on my stock motor SV650 in July for the same reason..."I" was full and I was jones'n... My best lap at Grattan is a 1:37, so even slower than you. The closing speeds on the straights are an issue. I didn't have a problem with the corners and actually enjoyed the day. Riding fast laps in "I" isn't without drawbacks. There is bad passing and other dangerous stuff going on. Tough call IMHO.

My solution? I sold my SV650 and bought a 999S. I'm probably slower on the 999 at this point, but at least I'm not getting buzzed in the straights. :)
