Day 1 at the Autobahn started off a bit rough with several crashes in the first two rounds. I don't believe that anyone was seriously injured but I could be wrong on that. The track was cold and wet with some mud in turns two, six and eight. So we tip toed around for the morning while the sun did its best to dry things up. The afternoon was much better and traction was almost good. Some damp spots just never dried up.

Special thanks to Nick who ran a tight ship and a good riders meeting where we actually could hear him! A first at a riders meeting for me, I don't know about the rest of you.

I would also like to thank David Kim (sorry if I git that wrong!) who took the time to watch me and gave me the bump to "A" group. Look forward to riding with you again soon!

Funny, I don't look too enthused in this picture but it was taken before we turned any laps.

Hey no problem! You were looking good in your first advanced session. I know it was the first track day on that bike, but you were carrying good speed through the corners, and honestly from my vantage point you looked really comfortable in the middle and exit of the corners, which in my opinion are the most important parts... it's all about getting a good drive out of a turn to drop the lap times. Overcook the entry and you've just messed everything else up, so kudos to you for getting up to speed with a new bike so quickly!

Yeah, that was fun. Not sure why I thought I'd be ok only signing up for one day, thinking that I'd be happy with sitting out on Sunday. Pfft.

Just wanted to note: if whomever was doing tech Saturday morning is on the board, I just wanted to say that I'm mortified that I came through tech with a dried up icky rotted front tire. (the girl with the hawk that sounded like a tractor) It's a new (old) bike, only picked it up a few weeks ago, haven't had time to do much with it, and was told the tires had some life left. My bad for not taking a better look because if I had noticed it, I would have never have tried running it.

The rear by the way worked just fine for being a little old. Still plenty sticky for my pace, and worked well besides one wiggle outside of the line in turn 7. Still, I'll be getting a new rear at Grattan. So, lesson learned. Even if you buy stuff from a trusted source, go over everything just to be sure.

Totally should have known better, and I didn't want to be one of those stories of "you wont believe what this person tried passing through tech."

    Sunday was an absolute blast.

This was only the 3rd day on the new gsxr 1k (first two were Barber a month and change ago) and it's starting to feel pretty good. I'm realizing I *have* to stop putting off suspension work and get stiffer springs to match, my um, "heft"... I'm down in the bottom part of the fork travel (even with the pre-loaders maxed out) and spent most of Sunday not trusting the front of the bike at all.... so I was sort of tip-toeing around through the corners. Still a good time though.

Huge thanks to X for the talk and the bump to "A".... and good to finally actually meet you! :D

Also huge props to the Shadow Video guys... first time I've ever seen myself on video for an extended period of time -what an awesome teaching tool! Very educational to see all little mistakes you make through the corse of a lap. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

I thought it was cool that he hung out and chatted with people in the pits and took questions.

It was fun returning to the scene of the crime.

I haven't really been back on a bike since my season ending crash into turn 1 at ACC the end of last year.

So it was slow wearing off the jitters dialing in the new bike running into that evil turn.

It was humbling getting passed by Mark Junge and watching him disappear into the next few turns.

But over all, a great weekend with great weather.

In order - Me (Mouse), Matt (El D), I don't know the grey bike, and Grasshopper to the right.

    Thanks to K3 and Stone

Many thanks to K3 for his instruction and helping me with the bump to "I" for the Sunday session and also to Stone for the body position tips.

I had a great time in the "I" group on Sunday and look forward to riding with you guys again. I always recommend SBTT to my friends mainly because you do have structured classes for beginners.

    Great job! Thank you all.

Jim hello. I rode with u in novice group on Sat the bald guy with the Maroon/blk gsxr 750. How diff was I group for ya once u started going into it? Much of a different pace then Sat. I know I told u once already but thanks again for being as smooth as u were. I felt fully confident following u around the track. You were riding great.. Sorry not trying to steal post.

    Keith:

You get passed at closer quarters and at greater closing speeds than when you're riding in the novice group, but there is also much less slow traffic to interfere with riding smooth and consistent lines. I really like the more open feel to the track and even managed to pass the slower 1/3 of the group.

Some of the I riders really should have been riding in the advanced group but it was fun to watch them fly by! As you were aware, there were also many more craches in this group for one reason or another.

Like K3 said on Saturday, you would fit right in with this group.

Thanks for the comments! I hope to see you and your Dad again.

    Thanks,

    Jim Meigs

sorry to hear about the bike! that really stinks...don't worry about riding at the Femmoto Lite event on May 26/27th. We will have some demo bikes in the parking lot and dirt (that the guys can ride) and cool stuff for the kids (bounce house/bag games). You are more than welcome to come out and just hang out with us...

    See you soon
