Hey...newbie here. Well, I always said that if a track opened within 2 hours of my home I would have to seriously consider getting a track bike. With that said, I have been told many times that the SV650S is a great track bike. So if I was going to buy a bike to run primarily at "Monti", is that still a good choice? I currently ride a Bandit 1200s on the street.
Yes a SV650 would be great for a new rider and you can get cheap. I own a 99 sv650 and a 06 600rr so I can tell you the sv is really good to start on.
The SV is maybe the best bike for everywhere, except perhaps RoadAmerica and willow springs. Great bike, damn near indestructable.
SV 650 SV 650 oh did I say SV 650 Great bike, great bike on the brakes, and great traction if you have Power Ones anyway a great track tool..

I did my first trackeday on the East course at Poconco on a 4 week old SV in '99. It did double duty till 2001 when I picked a 600. I sold the 600 and bought a salvage SV to race in 2002 . Damn things just rock.
If you watch really carfully you will see a silver and blue flash at the 2:25 mark, its renard on my sv650 blasting past a 1198 at monticello full course. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv7nbseBgpU maybe that guy should sell the duc and by a sv and alot of track time. Oh and Renard you cant ride my bike any more....your out of controll.
Kevin were did you find that video? if you notice I was on the brakes set up to turn passing that guy. & FYI I was in complete control. SV 650's Are total fun to ride THX again for the ride.
