Go for a first gen, carbs are the new thing now!

    08+ like said above.

06/07 aren't that bad either tho.

    I've always heard 05 and 08 - and I have 'em both :D

The 08 is new to me this coming season so I haven't formed an opinion on it yet.

As for the "new gen" R6, I have had both an 06 and an 08. I loved the 06 and it fit me very well as far as riding style. The 08 is both familiar and "night and day" different at the same time. Better midrange, bit better suspension, it doesn't catch fire immediately upon crash, slightly different ergo's.

While it took me a bit to get used to it, I would suggest the 08-present model if that is in the budget. Really, not much has changed since 08, so if you can find one that hasn't been abused, go for it!

You don't need no 1000 man, 600s are more fun! I wouldn't mind riding a big bike but the 600s are so damn good now that it hones your skills better IMO

:amen: What he said. I have been on 600's for years and still can't out ride them! Its also pretty fun to be right next to a 1k mid corner and pull away b/c you can get on the gas WAY sooner!

Ergos will be near identical on 600 and 1k sounds like u prob have one of the more relaxed bikes now.

I second this.... I went from a 600 to 1000 and the Ergo's are the same.. I am faster on my 1000 at some tracks but others slower than my 600. Try some rear set and clip on adjustments... I like to keep my clip ons wide MX Style.. Its just what I am used too.. As far as the feet I have my Vortex's all the way back and 2 down. I am 6'2 245 and have not fitment issues at all.... Well on the bike that is...:jester:

As far as the R6, 2008 is the year. The bikes haven't changed since, and 2008 was the last year before the emissions restrictions were built into the ECU. Unless you are going Kit ECU, a 2008 will be faster than a newer one (assuming the 2008 isn't worn out).

For all intents and purposes, they haven't changed since 2008. So somebody can build a track/race bike out of an 08 much cheaper than a newer one...and have a current machine.

I am certainly NOT as tall as you lol so I don't have that problem. I agree to try diff settings on your rearsets/clipons to see what works best. I had a 1k at the track and they are fun for sure; just a different kind of fun :)

Whitney Arnold Run it wide. The grass is a safe place.

I have a (2010)CBR 1000RR and I had a (2006)CBR600RR. I recently sold the 600, but it was my favorite bike. I had my personal "fast laps" on the 600RR. I could really have fun on it. I started building the 1000RR for the track and got to the point I was riding it more and had all my money invested in it, so I sold the 600RR for a suspension upgrade. I miss the little black rocket. I loved how it would back-fire EVERY time I rolled off the gas.

As far as ergos, 600/750/1000 all dimensionally identical. If somebody is too big for a 600, they will be too big for a 1000. Get whichever one you like better, then get some clipons, Rearsets, levers and get it setup for you.

FWIW, I'm 6'2" and ride 600's, including a 675 which is smaller than other 600's.

I love my 1000 and have ridden a 2009 ninja 600 and here are my thoughts:

my 1000 is more of a rush, and I need to be more careful before twisting the throttle

the 600 was more "fun", I was laughing and enjoyed flogging it. Much less intimidating, and much easier to be smooth yet aggressive.

Ergo's are different, but one is not more suited to bigger riders than the other. Actually my setup on my 1000 is much more aggressive (high foot pegs, low handlebars) than what the 600 was; even though the 600 "felt" smaller: due to the body work and tank shape.

If I had to do it again I would buy a 600... unless I only did track days at Road America or Road Atlanta :)

R6's look sweet, sound good, and are fast. I would love to try one out.

I stopped going to Road America when I got rid of the 1000 :)

But yes 1000's are a rush (power wheelies with ease) just don't open the throttle too early lol. They are all great bikes!

Sorry OP but I think your ? Was answered in the first response.

bingo :thumb: emissions have ruined chit.. though if you get a 09-12 r6 you can send the ecu out and have much of that removed. I prefer the 09-12 zx6r myself though ;)

'08 - picked mine up last season and I'll be keeping it for a long time. Plus it's comforting to know that the general design of that chassis hasn't changed in 8 years; means they really nailed a design and most likely expensive manufacturing techniques are the only thing holding back a new one. The mid range power on the '08+ models is really staggering with the variable velocity stacks, too.
