Hi everyone, new to the forum and have only done 2 track days. Been street riding for 30 years but just started track days.

I’m struggling with 2 issues currently, body position during braking and turning.

For braking, I am told to setup before I start braking so I have 3/4 of my butt off to one side. When i brake hard I find I cant grip the tank with my knees and the position just feels very awkward to both brake and downshift (no quickshifter). How so I get some grip and be comfortable doing this?

For cornering, I find I have a little too much weight on my palms still and when hanging off I am putting some weight on the outside bar when ideally I should be pulling on it. I tried sitting all the way back and it helps a little. What can I do to get my weight completely off the bars and be in a position that allows me full control to countersteer effectively in a turn? Wondering if I need to lower and bring the clipons forward more or is it something wrong with my body position? I am trying my best to use my core and legs, only thing that seems to help is to push down on the inside peg but that gets tiring very quickly.

Hey Matey - Find a coach on your next trackday and share your thoughts with them. They are available and that's precisely why they're there. I'm pretty sure you can also schedule a one-on-one for a nominal fee if you want a dedicated coach.

It is so difficult to tease-out what you're actually doing vs the picture one makes when reading your post - you may be doing things correctly, but since it's new, it feels awkward.

For cornering, in my experience, there is no "locked position" you get into and stay - in other words, after hard braking when you adjust for corner entry, that is not the position you hold throughout the turn. You are supposed to move your body based upon where you are in the turn. Corner entry position morphs into apex position morphs into corner exit position.

My opinion; best advice is to have a coach get eyes on you!

Getting a coach to look at what your talking about is the best,

Do you have tank grip? I really like the ht moto Apex sells it helps grip the bike without tearing up my suit
