My bike is lightly modified but has the stock dual sport tires. I would like to ride in the novice group with a friend of mine. I have held a WERA Expert license and an AMA ProAm license and I did a track day with this group in 2004 at Putnam with the Buell I had then so I have track experience and I routinely drag my sliders on the street with this bike ( I know its not the smartest thing to do on the street, thats why I want to do the track day! ) and the bike is capable of reaching 100MPH so I will not be holding the slower groups up on the straights. I know this is not the ideal setup for the track but it is what I have right now and I know I can ride the track safely. My friend is signed up for the April Mid-Ohio day,if there are any spots open and the bike will pass tech I would like to sign up ASAP. Can any of you help me with this question? Thanks Charlie
DR650? ... I don't know dirt/motard bikes, but it sounds like it'd be okay. Lately there's aways someone running motard at trackdays. On some of the smaller tracks they can be really great. I'd guess that so long as it has track-worthy tires then you'd be fine, but it doesn't hurt to be sure. Try emailing monte@sportbiketracktime.com if no one else on here answers your question soon.
Last Oct there was a guy in the intermediate group who brought his klr650 out in the rain. i think he was the only guy who passed me that session, on the wet track. still had the dualsport knobbies on & everything! I see no reason that your dr wouldn't be alright, provided your tires are in decent shape, especially in novice group. cheers,. Lance
