Anybody know what is a good fork oil to use for Honda RC51? Can I get this at automotive shop or is this something that needs to be ordered at a bike shop/online. I'm pretty sure mine is worn out fish oil.
My front end sucks and practically bottoms out.

Any advice on changing it before season begins?

Just remember to fill the forks up ALL THE WAY to the tippy-top.

Right!!! Actually had a mech. do that on my 996 at the 12K service, I rode it like that for another 12K till a different mech. swapped the oil and told me. Yowzers. Hey, what did I know, I was too consumed with other things to care about suspension oil. now i know.....

So maybe next time i'll use crisco. If it sucks, I'll just cook with it.

So what weight oil do I get again? Just basic stuff from the shop if they don't have Maxima and stuff?

I was surprised to hear about filling it to the rim. I thought you had to leave a little air, 50-60mm up top for air compression....what I learned in sport suspension tuning manual..

Either way, I have a 2003 Rc51. Never changed oil in forks. Yeah, i know.

Capacity is 105-135 mm from the top...collapsed without spring, using 5wt oil. Tdub

    A word of caution.
Fork oil is a very light oil. Very few fork oils of the same weight have the same viscosity, some even within the same brand. In fact in some brands, you can find a higher weight fork oil that actually has a lower viscosity. Best to think of weight as a way to identify the oil and not as a measure stick. The best way to compare fork oil viscosity is by centiStokes values.

In your case if you like the way the forks acted when the oil was fresh (or you don't really know), I would replace the oil with the recommended Honda oil & weight. I'm not claiming Honda oil is the best (who knows who made it), but at least you'll have an idea what you will be getting. You should be able to get it at a Honda bike dealer or by mail order.
