I am registered to run CMP on the 25th and I have never run with STT before, always with US Desmo. With US Desmo, they hand out number decals upon tech completion. STT do the same or what?

Also, a word to the wise.... I just did a weekend at CMP and cold tires bit more than a couple people, myself included, Saturday morning. The temps were low 50's and it felt like hitting ice until tire temps were up.

Just to reply to your original post, numbers are not given out after tech, just a large circular decal with a letter showing which group you are riding in. Numbers are not currently required in STT but may be in the future. Enjoy your track day and good luck with the cold weather!

Cold tires don't bite in my experience... pushing your bike to hard before they get some heat in them does!!

Patience is MUCH cheaper than bodywork and warmers are a good bet if your short on the former.

We have not used numbers in the past and might in the future but be warned... insurance companies use numbers to keep from paying claims. Numbers = racing in thier minds.. I speak from 10+ years experience and hundreds of events. Numbers have upside but there is a downside as well.

Please read our Policies and Proceedures completely and you'll know what to excpect (and you'd know we don't require numbers) and you'll be prepared.

    Enjoy CMP!!

You've maybe had more experience with the numbers thing, but the Reduc folks never noticed a difference in claims for bikes with numbers vs no numbers. One of my friends had insurance pay and her bike had numbers on it. I think, in general, insurance companies are going to start balking at paying trackday claims, and it won't have anything to to with whether or not a bike has numbers on it. I think State Farm has recently stopped covering non-competitive track days, at least in some areas. Check your policies. Most folks that prep their street bikes for the track have numbers put on with tape or whatever that come off easily. Having a number plate on it isn't the only give away that it's been on the track. What about all the lights removed/taped? License plate off? IF your insurance company is one that covers non-competitive trackdays, then they'll do so regardless of having numbers on or not. A dedicated track bike may have a permanent number plate, but if it's track-only, why bother registering and insuring it?

My personal opinion is that having numbers increases the safety at a track day, which I believe outweighs the possible non-payment due to numbers. I'm surprised insurance companies even covered trackdays in the first place, actually. I thnk most folks push it more at a trackday then they would on the street. That's part of the purpose, isn't it? If you can't afford to crash it, don't bring it to the track. And if you wreck it on the track, don't lie to your insurance and say it happened on the street.

I'm also thinkin' you could argue to the insurance that the numbers are for safety rather than racing. You know, so if someone has a leak you can id them quicker and get them off the track, stuff like that. Just playing devil's advocate here, not saying you didn't have insurance companies deny a claim soley because a bike has a number. Anything's possible where insurance companies are concerned! :?

    Hi Newbie,

I'm a US DESMO rider too. The number thing is no biggie. One huge plus of STT is the novice instruction. Most of the time, most of the control riders (instructors) are the same. I'm pretty sure Jim will be there. Bill is usually there also and sometimes Larry. You'll feel right at home. Hopefully we will have a good day with few or no flags. Wouldn't that be great!!! Keep your fingers crossed for a beautiful day, we've had our share of rain this year. I'm looking forward to it.

    See you soon.

Curious. I find that no where in there.......

Only reason I asked is this: NESBA requires you show up with your number already on. USDesmo issues the numbers at tech, etc.....

Just wanted to make sure I was in order on this issue. No biggie to me either way.
