    *edit*

Thread title changed - It appears this may be more widespread than just Barber attendees. If you're not already monitoring your balances, you should check your CC statements and verify all charges.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Hey guys (and girls)

Several people from my group that attended Barber last weekend had their credit cards skimmed. Right now we're not sure where or how it happened.

We think it may have happened at Logan's Steakhouse since a friend covered my meal there and everyone else was hit.

Check your statements and balances carefully.

That's pretty messed up!! It's kind of weird because I'm having a problem with my debit card right now. I noticed a couple of days ago that I had almost 500 dollars trying to clear from some bogus internet website that I never even went to. I even went to check the website out and found out that there's no such website. There is a supposed company that I found when I checked it under a dogpile search engine though. All I could find out was a bunch of stock information. It sounds pretty fishy to me. I notified my bank immediately the other day and they told me that if it clears they will try and credit me my money back. Either way I think it's way to easy to fraud a credit account. They should really try and come up with a better system. I'm sure that my situation is a separate incident, but I can relate. Anyway, take it easy.

Don't be so sure that it is a separate incident. Of the 5 people that were at Barber with me that I have heard from, all 5 were hit yesterday, and as far as I can tell, all through internet websites like myfamily.com/ancestry.com/walmart.com etc. It can't be a coincidence.

I know STT has looked into it and have been told that everything is secure, but if someone is good at hacking, how can anyone be so sure. There really is no other tie between the 5 of us that got hit that makes any sense, I don't think.

That's interesting. It happened to me too, and I didn't go to Logan's Steakhouse. I found out about it as I was filling up for gas in Birmingham and my card was declined. My bank locked the acount due to the suspicious charges. Whoever did it made charges to myfamily.com/ancestry.com and Sams online for about $1500. Luckily I got my money back, and a new debit card is in the mail. Still, I'd love to have whoever did this dropped off at my door for awhile.

According to the forum of the company that designed STTs shopping cart, within the last two weeks, there were some hackers from Vietnam hitting websites with their software. I'd bet money on that being the case here.

Who knows...Maybe it is through the website or something. I just hope that it gets fixed and that we all get our money back. I'm supposed to be getting my trailer here pretty soon and I can't buy it when some a@# is taking my money. It would be better if the feds or something caught them instead of me. I can be pretty unforgiving with that kind of stuff. I'm the easiest person to get along with until someone crosses my line then.....well you get the point. Anyway, take it easy.

What the heck is it with ancestry.com? Craig (yzl1337), his father, and Dave (rddy) all got hit with charges to that company.

Dave, have you requested any info from ancestry.com regarding this? If the transaction was made online, their server logs should've recorded the IP of origin.

Everyone that has been hit needs to get as much info detailing the problem as possible. That way it can be forwarded to the FBI Internet Crimes Div.

I was hit on 3/17. They attempted to charge Bloomingdales and Coach. Amex shut them down and contacted me and since then closed my account and issued me a new card number. I was not at Barber. I am moving to a Citibank card and will be doing all my online purchases with virtual credit card numbers. I would love to see whoever is doing this lose a hand or two or some other appendage!

I called both Walmart and Ancestry.com yesterday and they found no charges to my account or my name. Their response was weak, to say the least. They said that they don't even have anything that expensive for sale, so it couldn't have been something bought through their company. Well, either it was, or someone has figured out how to make it appear as if a charge is from one company on your account when in fact it is not. Fake accounts set up through a credit card processing company, perhaps.

I just thought that you guys should know that I got hit on COH*COACH.COM I went to look up the website and I couldn't find such a site like I said earlier though I did do a dogpile search engine and found some stuff related to stocks and shares though with that site. It even gave me a phone # 800-444-3611FL I called it in the middle of the night and got an answering machine. I didn't talk to the people though. I'm going to let my bank do that. I'm not even sure if they are legit or if it's just more of a scam.  If I'm not sure it's a real place why would I argue with them....know what I mean.

Stef, you may want to change the title of this thread to remove Barber and put STT so that more people might see it. If someone hacked the system, everyone should know. I can't say for certain that they did, but with non-Barber people as well as other VP-ASP shopping carts from other companies getting hit , it seems quite likely.

Just kind of an FYI, I brought this up via PM to Monte and Bonnie.

They, along with the Support team for VP-ASP, are looking into the situation as a precautionary measure. It's worth mentioning that they did this at the mere suggestion of a problem.

My original PM was very similar to this thread, and stated only Barber people were affected. No begging, no pleading, just a "thank you for bringing this to our attention" and a detailed explanation of what's being done.

    Have I mentioned I love STT? :D

I love STT too! And their response to you just shows how concerned they are about any potential vulnerability. Nevertheless, it is important to highlight the potential so that if it exists, it can be eliminated promptly.

If there is anything that I can do to help, let me know, Monte. I don't want this to affect your business as you guys are great and I know you want to do your best to provide a secure environment for your customers.

Yup, I was hit, too. Fraud charges from something or other ancestry. Monte looked into it promptly and they've upgraded software in case. Good, professional response! Thanks again for looking into it, Monte!

Fortunately, my cc company denied the charges and contacted me because the incorrect expiration date for my card was given. They'll be issuing me a new card.

Hey it's me again. I just wanted you to know that I called the fraud department from my bank that's handling my case and I told them to look at this forum for some evidence and possible leads. I figured that the few websites that people gave out to where there unauthorized charges were might give them some leads. It seemed like a good idea. The lady there said that she would look into it right away. I still have to wait a while to possibly get my money back but if it helps prove fraud or gets the perpetrator caught I'm happy with that.

Oh and just so you know I still think the people in the forum are cool and I'm still looking forward to going to Mid-Ohio on the 30th!!! (Actually I plan on becoming severely addicted and going to the track countless more times.) Who knows maybe I might even take some time off in the winter and hit up one or two in Florida. Well, you get my point. Take it easy.

Hey guys, I'm a Reduc refugee and new to the STT family. :)

Just wanted to add to your list of folks 'hit' by fradulent charges.

My story is that I hadn't used this particular credit card online in months. On Thursday 3/16 in the late evening, I registered online for STT's membership. Saturday morning @ 8:08am I got a call from my cc company's fraud department (Capital One) asking about charges from the previous day (Friday 3/17)from Coach. What a surprise first thing in the morning.

The only info I could get from the fraud investigator was that the attempted purchase was made online but was declined due to incorrect information supplied by the perp. They had the acct # but apparently not the other info that goes along with it to verify that they were indeed me. The attempted charge pointed to Jacksonville, FL.

We discussed the attempted charge and I was told that usually if someone wants to hide their fraudulent charges from being spotted, they don't charge this high of a $ value. I got hit for approx $500. Interesting comment which may indicate some non-professionals at work.

Anyway, we alerted Monte as it was highly suspect when my friend and I both got hit when we used our cards on this site. He took immediate action and responded back to us that he was looking into things. Thanks Monte! :D

Anyway, FWIW, here's more info to add to the pile. Hopefully, everyone will read this thread and take the time to review their credit card statements online rather than wait for the printed copy to arrive weeks later.

So from my understanding of reading this, it appears this from the use of the website to buy the track day online?

Is there any correlation to those that have been hit to compare what day you signed up on STT's website?

The date I bought my Barber track day was on 2/11/06.

I just checked as I used a card I hardly ever use and I only show the charge for STT. I'll keep in eye out though.

I also purchased in Feb and also just checked my charge history, everything seems OK for now.

There should be a class action lawsuit against the Credit Card Industry. How many of you have received a letter in the mail from one of these companies with ALL YOUR information on it? Just call and we'll activate this etc....

If this letter is stolen and you are in big trouble. The sender should be held liable. Its because of the ways the laws were written and the politics behind all this money that its this messed up.

To get a credit card should require some kind of notarized form just like the DMVs require.

If your identity is 'stolen' then its your fault not the bank that gave away money based on nothing more than a piece of paper and ink or perhaps as little as a phone call.

Be carefull and use cash as much as possible. My $0.02.

    Good luck,
