I have some questions for all who use straight distilled water instead of any other type of engine coolant. First, should you use straight distilled water, or should some type of additive, like water wetter, be added? Second, have you noticed any difference in the temperature of the bike? Does it run much hotter? I currently run Engine Ice, and I’m thinking of just running straight distilled water. I’m interested in running some races this year with WERA, the biggest reason for the change. I changed from the stock ethyl glycol coolant to Engine Ice, and did not notice a difference in the running temperature, although the advertisement for Engine Ice stated a 20-50 degree temperature drop. One idea I am aware of will be to drain the coolant system for the winter months, that will not be a problem. Unless I forget….. For those who are familiar with running distilled water, please share your opinions and experiences. Thanks,
My only concern with plain distilled, RO or DI water is rust. Water Wetter has a rust inhibitor, as do "anti-freeze". If your cooling system is working properly you will see no change in temperature when you change from one solution to another, i.e. just water, water with water wetter, ethylene glycol & water, propylene glycol only, propylene glycol and water (note: this mixture is NOT permitted in Advanced, only pure Propylene Glycol is).
