I still ride the street often and enjoy it more on my motard than the sportbike. Trackdays have really changed my riding on the street with the sportbike. I feel so much safer on the track. Got to love back country roads on the motard though.
I love riding too much to give up street riding completely. I only drive my car if it is below 40 degrees or raining. My track bike is a 636, but I ride a standard on the street. Pure sport bikes are torture to ride more than 30-45 minutes on the street, and really not needed at street pace.
most of my street riding is commuting these days. the only real 'ride' I took this summer was because my sister-in-law goaded me into proving my little EX-500 was more fun than a harley I just don't feel comfortable pushing on the street anymore. A big part of that is that the track lets me know what i'm missing, and I spot hazards i wouldn't have otherwise known were there. and my street bike doesn't exactly have the same performance potential of my track bike... crashing on the street is always going to be more expensive than the $350/weekend I spend on track fees. I remind myself of that whenever i'm tempted to go faster.
i have some truly epic roads right out my back door, but after experiencing track riding, my pace has slowed down considerably (not that it could have ever been considered fast in the first place). Now street riding if purely to work on the basics and enjoy riding. plus i would be wicked pissed if i wrecked my trackbike on the street.
I still ride on the street as often as I can, I enjoy ridinng alot, but I am vary cautious of the nut jobs in cages babbeling on cell phones. Their are a few roads around were I can rip it, no drive ways no intersection and very little traffic, but they are few and far between. Overall riding hard is just out of the question on the street. Keep the rubber side down!
Re: Do you still ride "hard" on the street after d Track days probably saved my life..I used to ride like an idiot on the street before. Now I can slow down on the street and actually enjoy the scenery! RJK
