I'm looking at doing my first provisional race with WERA Aug 25 at Tally. I'm looking for a transponder right now. I'm going to check the viability of my helmet. I'm sure it's ok it's a K3. I have all track body work on my bike, so the belly pan is closed off. I have a steering stabilizer. I'm going to run Bridgestone Battlax bt0016 so I don't need warmers. Any thing else I may be missing? Any help is highly appreciated because I'm nervous as a virgin at prom.

I think they rent transponders there.

They do;however, it's more economical to buy one. I don't need one for my provisional races, so I have a bit of time, but I'm trying to think how it'll work out long term. It's 60 to rent and I can find a used one for around 300. It pays for itself in the first year.

helmets need to be 5 years or newer from mfg date. you can rent transponders, and the rental fee goes to the purchase of one if you buy new (i believe). Ski

what they said above. Also make sure that you safety wire everything they list in the rule book, they check.

    Useful Wera links.

    -rulebook http://maps.wera.com/rulebook/?x=1098

    -New Racer Handbook Here http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=309465

    -Information For New Racers http://forums.13x.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61

-WERA New Racer Incentive Program http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=314196

Also call or email WERA in advance and get a race # picked out so you can put it on you bike in advance of the first race. Getting my # on my bike was likely the biggest hassel of my first race day.

Also when talking to WERA ask if they are doing a race school at whatever event is going to be your first race.

Bring a tube of RTV silicone. As a pro-novice they'll let you rtv a few things that should have been wired.

The K3 is not gonna fly with WERA. I had one as well but it doesnt have any of the required CE or Snell approvals. I emailed forth and back with there Tech to make sure and I got a thumps down after all. I bought me a Bell RS1 from STG (was on Sale!). That one has the Snell markings. Make sure you bring a orange shirt for the first two weekends since thats required for the PN guys. Anything else was already said.

Read the rulebook twice on safety wiring or find a racer at a STT event to give it a look. It is easy to miss things.

Hi guys! Cool that this thread popped up, I'm trying to prep my bike for my first provisional novice weekend 8/2,3 but have run into some unknowns.. :help:

I'm completely lost on how I safety wire "Speedo and Tach Cables" & "Brake Torque Arms (levers??)". I guess I'm not sure what they really even mean.
Where the rules say to safety wire any pressure fed lubricant line, are they also referring to hose clamps for coolant lines? My front brake line threads directly into the caliper without a banjo, would be VERY hard to drill for safety wire. If anything I would think it could make the line dangerous to use. Is RTV acceptable for that application? (Galfer front SBK series)

Browsing around on here, Steve is full of great tips today..

EDIT: Questions are regarding 07-08 zx6r

Chris here's my last tip for today. If you're going to ask questions about a bike tell us which one you're talking about as you have three listed under your avatar:boink:

Safety wire, easiest thing for both you guys to do is at your next trackday find a racer with the same bike and look at it and ask questions.

    One more thing, http://www.pro-bolt.com
If you've got the cash I'd recommend pre-drilled caliper, pinch and drain bolts. There the bolts that come off the most that have to be wired. You can drill them yourself but these make it pretty easy.:thumb:

    Will do!

Yeah I actually picked up a set of the brake pad retaining pins from pro-bolt. I thought they were a fantastic idea, pro-bolt has some cool stuff.. Luckily I have a drill press and was able to do most of my bike relatively easily. It gets easier each hole you do. I picked up a nutholer and a few socket head cap screws to help out the process. The only things I have left were what I listed a few posts back, hopefully I can find someone on a zx6 this weekend and have a peek at their bike!

Do they not provide orange shirts for PNs anymore? I hung mine up in the garage after my second weekend. Eventually I needed a rag, though, so.....

Here's some stuff that got me my first weekend:

Tires. I'd never really ridden the track in the rain so the thought of needing rain tires was completely foreign. Guess I had just been blessed with great weather for years. Of course on race day it poured in the morning practice, so I bought a set of rains. Ended up having to race in them even though the track was dry because I didn't have...

Extra set of wheels. If you don't already have them, start looking for them now so you can keep rains mounted on them. In the event the weather changes quickly you won't be in a line 50 deep at tire service. Relieves SOOOO much stress. All but guarantees a dry track, too.

Read chapter 8(?) of the rule book where it spells out tech requirements. Print some tech forms and go over your bike before you even leave the house. Keep a laminated tech form with you and do it again at the track. Bring safety wire, pliers, a drill, and bits just in case they ding you.

Finally, don't do stupid shit when you're wearing the shirt. Just survive your first two weekends, finish your races, and try your best not to stuff the #1 plate going into T1 on the last lap.

Oh, and if you can at all avoid stalling on the start, that'd be good, too. Ask me how I know. ;)
