Got an upcoming track day in December and temp are around 45-60 as the high. How do you stay warm going 120mph and what is recommended wear under your leathers/gloves/etc? I'm thinking windproof my whole body?
For those temps, I use nothing but an extra layer on top, maybe a trash bag to keep the wind from pushing through during the morning sessions. Moving around the bike always keeps me warm once the session gets going.
I use a windbreaker & maybe a hoodie for when it's under 45. Once you get moving, you body starts to generate plenty of heat. If you're particularly cold-blooded, STG sells a product called "Cold Killers" (iirc) which are a thermal version of UnderArmor style compression under suits. Lance
Another option I have some middleweight high performance long johns I got from REI that work pretty well for colder track days. I also use it for general use (like when I am clearing the snow from the driveway) here in Wisconsin.
Ok, so you wear the windbreaker/hoodie over the leathers? I'm thinking a garbage bag goes under the leathers...
Re: Another option Alright, I think they call them thermal underwear these days, but they serve the same purpose. Even so, the image of me in some red long johns with a flap in the back can't be as bad as the image from that other comment, at least as long as the flap is closed.
Don't believe him (on2wheels) first thing he did last year after sitting down on BHF's front straight at 100+ was present the "flap" lol on the serious side I use thermal underwear under the suit and have been known to tape over the venting.....
