I'd like to get a little input from those who have been to racing events in the past. I've honestly never been to a motorcycle race of any kind but, now that I have a job again, I am planning on making it to the Laguna Seca round this July (If I can get some more money maybe even WSBK at Miller). What is "general admission"? Does that mean you just pick a corner and sit on the grass? That's actually what I would prefer, plus it is the cheapest option. I'm pretty sure I know what grandstand seating is, but is it that much better?

Also, for those who have made it to Laguna Seca in the past, what are good, reasonably priced hotel options?

    Thanks,
    Adam

General Admission is as you say, no grand stand seating, no pit lane, no Paddock, etc....

There are no reasonably priced hotels on race weekends. That's when most of the hotels gouge the prices. Perhaps the best standard gouging rates are $300 per night.

The sick thing is that what it cost a couple to attend the MotoGP round in 2005 would have financed a two week tour of Europe INCLUDING a round of the MotoGP or WSBK. Really and quite sad too. Many hotels were charging $500, $600 and $700 per night when the rest of the year its $90.

One of the better spots to spectate is on the hill overlooking Rainey Curve. You can see from the exit of the Cork Screw up to turn 5 with some obstruction of the front straight.

For the Laguna round, I highly recommend staying at the track if you can, even if it takes renting a motorhome. Getting in & out of the track is a major pain & waste of time in my experience.
