I just bought Jamie Hackings 2004 Yamaha R6 (sorry had to throw that in…too excited). He has a GP Quick Shift set up (1 up 5 down). I would like to keep the Quick shift but I need one that actuates in the opposite direction (1 down 5 up).
    :?:
Where can I find this part and could I put it on myself?
    :?:
I know some one is going to say you have a big boy bike play like a big boy, but I have my R1 that has a standard shift and I would like to either set the R1 like the R6 or vice versa. This is my first year in the “I†group so please go easy on me.
    Thanks
    Darren

IMO, switch your street bike and save some $$ on a new quickshifter. you can do a lot w/ the couple hundred you will save in parts! I would cruise the WERA BBS www.wera.com or other race org sites to see if you can get one used.

That being said, it IS an easy swap usually. Assuming it it a DynoJet Quickshifter, there are two types, "pull" and "push". You just need to buy the opposite type from the one you have and install it. Go to the DynoJet website to learn more. Any other brand, i dont know.

As for transitioning to GP shift, it will take probably the morning sessions of a day to get used to and then will become second nature quickly. That being said, try to avoid going from one set up to another... confusion at the wrong time is a bad idea! If you are LUCKY, you just upshift wehn you should downshift. If your luck is like mine, you will do the opposite and learn that the top of 3rd gear is no time to shift to 2nd!!

Thank you for your suggestion. I joined the WERA web site and found some good advice (and parts) there too. I had a hard time finding someone to change my R6 from a GP shift to a standard shift. I was disappointed that so many local shops did not want to do the work. I did find a place on the east side willing to do it. I can't wait to ride. The weather is starting to get to me.

    Thanks again :p
