Does anyone know what time the gates close Friday night if we wanted to camp out? I've never camped out at a track day before and we'd be looking to stay Friday Night and Saturday, depart on Sunday afternoon sometime.

Also, is there a video available of Grattan some where?

Friday night I don't think you'll be able to get inside the gate. You can camp out in the grassy field right after you turn off the road. I've done that a few times. There are bathrooms (showers too?) available and it was always free. Sat. night I think the gate closed at 10, IIRC.

I thought there was a video on the Grattan website, but I don't see it. If not, there is probably one out there somewhere.

Has anyone stayed in any of the local hotels that STT recommends on their website? I'm looking for a decent place to crash on Saturday night.

Candlestone is 10 minutes from the track. That is where we always stay. Rooms are clean and very large, though the mattreeses needed replacing about 25 years ago.

The candlestone inn is about the best you will find in the area. I agree on the mattresses, but after a long day at the track and a couple adult beverages, you won't mind. Another place to try would be the Winter Inn... just a bit further down the same road the Candlestone is on. More like a B&B but has a nice restaurant/ bar in the downstairs. It is more of a small town hotel atmosphere.

There is also The Grand Inn:

    http://grandinngr.com/

I use to stay there when i raced with GLRRA.

Rooms are $50 ( if I remember ) and it is A tad bit nicer than the Candlestone .. though it is about 20 mins from the track.

+1 on the stonebed inn. big rooms, cheap- the place needs a hot-tub, though. there's also the amerisuite in Ionia a bit farther, but they've got great accomodations and there's a sweet go-cart track across the road that's open in the evenings.

personaly, I prefer to camp. all the cool kids stay at the track...

I just take my bike out of the trailer and sleep right in there. The plywoods a little hard, but it's nice waking up at exactly 7 am and just lazily walking over to sign up half dressed and groggy looking at the track first thing in the morning. Too bad I can't do that everyday.

    +2 for Candlestone Inn.

Don't stay at the Plainfield Motel. Between all of us, we had three rooms and had paid up front for two nights. The first night was so bad that we all agreed it would be absolutely worth every penny to pay again to stay somewhere else the second night.

Thanks for the tips everyone...espically the STD tip from wdavis009. I'd hate to have to sleep in a body condom. So the winner with grand total of +1004 is Candlestone Inn. I made my reservations $49.99 + tax...not bad.

Also checked the weather channel 10 day forcast. Saturday 7/1 high of 76 with a 30% chance of thunder storms. 7/2 high of 81 with the same chance of rain. I think these track days have contributed to me developing an obsessive compulsive disorder because I'll check that forecast 2-3 times a day until Saturday morning.

    I can't wait 'til the weekend :!:

And just so the weather gods can play with you a little more - you'll have rain in turn 1 ( and I don't mean a sprinkle either ) and sun back on 9 and 10 .... :?

if past history is any indicator, it means that in the afternoon, 30% of the track will have a torrential downpour, the rest will remain dry and sunny. I'm not joking.

If that's the case I'll stay on the 70% that's not wet. Or just move to plan B ...pizza and cooler full of Bells Oberon back at the Candlestone. Hopefully, plan B won't be implemented until after 5pm.
