FOr those of you who have been to Beaver Run before what are the following places like? Im guessing the Holiday Inn is fine howver the other ones, was thinking of saving a few bux but not if they are pits. Holiday Inn (1.6 miles) 7195 Eastwood Drive (Off Rt. 18) Deaver Falls, PA 724-846-3700 Contact: Mary Grae Ferraro (director of sales) Deaver Valley Motel (2.0 miles) 724-843-0630 Hiltop Motel (2.1 miles) 724-846-3928 Alpine inn (5 miles) 724-846-9820 Conley Inn (5 miles) 724-843-9300 Dann's Motel (2.5 miles) 724-846-1940 Lark Motel (2.5 miles) 724-846-6507 McDowell's Hotel (5.7 miles) 724-843-9879 Looking forward to this years activities 1 two day @ Beaver Run and 5 Mid-Ohio sessions
Near the track, the only place I've stayed is the Holiday Inn (which is great and incredibly convenient, but on the expensive side). The motels near the track look questionable to me. But check down the road in Cranberry, PA. This is about 20-25 minutes south on the Turnpike. There's a ton of hotels there (from cheap Motel8 type places up to a few pricey ones). If I'm not camping, then I'm at the Holiday Inn. Get a roll-away bed in the room and split it three ways and it's a great deal.
I liked the holiday Inn, pricey but it's an unrestored artifact of the early 80's "Holidome" concept. brought back memories of low-buck winter family vacations. we'd drive an hour or two and stay at the "Holidome" and swim indoors all weekend... I plan on camping, but i'm mightily tempted to book sunday eve at the Holiday Inn, if only to sit in the hot tub. Lance
Camping  hadnt though of that , is that @ the track or are their campgrounds near by where everyone stays ?
Lots of people camp in the paddock. the upshot is hanging out with everyone after the day's over. great way to make friends! L
You know how everyone lines their bikes along pit road (at tracks in general) ... well, walk 20 feet off pit road into the grass and pitch your tent there. Just be fair warned, Beaverun's a bit rocky, so bring an extra ground tarp if you have it (or an air-mattress). Nothing like waking up in the morning, rolling over and seeing a race track waiting for you to attack it! Such a great feeling.
Unless the camp ground has cable tv, xbox, hot tub and mini bar we'll be staying at the Holiday Inn. Something about sleeping on an air mattress over rocks (when sore from a day at the track) just isn't appealing. Blame it on my parents for poor rearing.
That does sound appealing , couple of ?'s though Shower s available ? I was planning on driving up on Friday , whats the story on getting access to the Track to set up camp in the evening ? Thanks I figure the money I save on hotels , might just buy me a nice shiny set of Pilot Powers , much better way to spend the $$
I'll save some money and sleep at the tracks.(Whichever ones allow it.) If not I'll hit a camp ground. It could be fun hanging out afterwards too. (Unless I'm at Mid-Ohio. I have relatives that live about a half hour away.) A free cozy bed is always good. The Rabbit
Yes, there are rather nice bathrooms and showers at Beaverun in the new garage building at the top of the 'hill'. 9 times out of 10 the gates at Beaverun are open all night, though occassionally the guard will go make rounds and he'll lock the gate for 15 minutes while he's not manning it. I can't really remember ever having a problem getting into the track, and I typically get there Friday evening between 10pm and midnight. Think about it this way.... if $230 Pilot Powers last 4 days for you, then you're spending about $60 per day on tires. By camping instead of paying for a hotel, you're pretty much giving yourself free tires! (Hopefully you're getting more days out of them though, in which case a night of camping pays for your tires and dinner that night! LOL)
Worse come to worse you can do what us infantry guys do. You can always use baby wipes and foot powder to stay fresh in the field.........  . I'm sure that a shower sounds better though. The Rabbit
FYI, I think it's the Lark Motel that has glass bock walls between the shower and the rest of the room. If you end up staying there, choose your roomies accordingly.
Heads up Between the turnpike and track, there is a restaurant/bar across the street from the bowling alley (I do not remember the name). You really do not want to go there, bad food, bad service. For drinks a hand full of STT instructors found out the bowling alley is the place (just ask the other hotel guests). Especially if it is a milestone birthday.
I'm thinking about camping this yr too but I stayed at the Beaver Valley last October. Not bad, pretty cheap and right next to the track.
I was at Beaverun this past weekend and stayed at the Hilltop Hotel. If you're really picky, you might not like it. It was really bare bones. There wasn't any cups or shampoo in the bathroom. The TV was almost as old as I am, no remote either. It didn't even have an alarm clock. BUT, it was clean, there was hot water, and the beds weren't too bad. And it was cheap, $49 after taxes. I'd stay there again. All I need is a bed and a shower, since I usually roll in around 10 or 11 and I'm out of there by 6:30 or 7. I don't envy the people who camped out this past weekend. It dropped to the upper 20's overnight.
Yeah, but I have a sleeping bag that's dual liner and if you use both bags it's as warm as a bed in the snow. I took it deer hunting in Northern Michigan with my dad a few years ago and slept right outside in the snow. I actually slept with no boots pants and a short sleeve shirt. Slept like a baby. and it was in the teens.
