I'm getting spoiled and not in a mood to camp this weekend... so what are the closest hotels to Pocono? I've only been up there once and I can't remember where I stayed that time. I did a hotels.com search for Long Pond, PA and it turned up quite a few options. Just wondering which ones were closest. Something in the $60 Comfort Inn or Super8 quality is what I'm looking for.
Hey Mar, The Best Western right off I-80 (at Route 115) is the closest mainstream accommodation. But it's usually not cheap. You can go about 15 min east of the PIR exit and stay in the Tannersville area (probably cheaper) or about 15 minutes west to the PA Tpke NE extension interchange (I think there's a Comfort Inn and maybe a Days Inn right there). See you this weekend! Doug
Hey this looks cheap AND it has a pub! I think I'm sold. Shannon Inn & Pub. Anyone ever stayed there?
This is the page I did for the old Reduc site: http://www.dragonflyint.com/reduc/web/tracks/tracks.html Some honest commentary on local hotels. Not a complete list, just ones I've had experience with. Tannersville is a good 20 minutes from the track. Strousburg is about 30 munites, more if your staying down town. White Haven ( the next exit West from teh track) is about 20 minutes. Much further than it looks on the map. Best Western is 5 munites from the track, and is the closest 'real' hotel. Very expensive for what you get, especially in the Summer.
NEVER stay at the Econo Lodge on Rt 940 in White Haven.... besides being a total dump, I had to call the cops when I looked out the window at 4:00 am and there were 2 guys scoping out cars in the lot. One had a pistol...
Mary, if you haven't found anything yet, you can also try Sullivan's Trail Motel...they are on Route 940 ...take a right at the Wawa on Rte 115 in Blakeslee and they're a few miles down the road. 15 min from the track. They're a small step up from Murphy's, but the rooms are like a normal cheap motel and not a hunting lodge with mildewy drop ceiling panels, and they have phone, TV and a small fridge in the rooms. here's the website... http://www.sullivantrailmotel.com/ of course the photo makes it look a bit nicer than it is...the pool does exist though. kath
I agree with Kath - I stay at Sullivan's Trail Motel when ever I ride Pocono and it is just like she describes. It ain't a Marriott but it fits the budget and it is reasonably close to the track. Kevin
I think this is more common than you think, especially the pistol part! By the way, after you called them, did the cops arrive? I think there's one car per county in dem' parts.
Two cop cars showed up but by the time they pulled up one of the guys ran into the woods... I left once the cops showed up.
