Novices are running times 1:30 and above

Intermediate guys should be around 1:22-1:28

Advanced riders should be below 1:22's

Top Am racers I think are pulling times like in the 16-17's, and top experts as low as maybe 12's, hell I be the stinking fast guys are even quicker than that.

    Thanks everyone.

Yea I am absolutely new to sportbikes and have every intention of advancing at a wise pace. I was just curious. I ran mid 1:20s in my sports car before the track was resurfaced and actually thought the bikes would be a lot faster. That the cues will be coming at a famiar pace is good news.

    Grandpa,

Pay close atention to the lines that your instructors show you, even if you're familiar with the track; bike lines are quite a bit different than auto lines. I pitted with a guy last year who had a considerable amout of car experience at the track. He got hit by other riders, 3 times last year, hurting his neck pretty badly and one guy who hit him at Gingerman, got a concussion and a broken hand, but his injuries could have been much worse. What was going on? He was riding his bike around the track like he was driving a car, going really deep into the turns, parking it on the brakes and making sharp and from other rider's standpoint, unpredictable lines, that were different from the standard racing line. he's given up track days and ended up selling all his sport bikes and in his early 30's settled on a Goldwing and an FJR1300. So sad to see someone so young on a late-model Goldwing. That's just not right...

    Cheers,

    Lance

i believe the lap record is 1'09.89".

i try to judge my target laptimes as a percentage over the lap record (adjust the target if ama guys have been there, obviously).

for example, at tracks like blackhawk, grattan, autobahn - i target 5-10% over the lap record. but at mid-ohio, road america, vir where ama guys have been, i target 10-15%.

find your % number and adjust accordingly.
