Did anyone catch that article on MotoGP about Rossi suspecting that Marquez is trying to help Lorenzo win?

Interesting... he claims that Marquez kept battling with Rossi and Ianone to create a gap for Lorenzo, but that Lorenzo wasn't fast enough in Australia to capitalize on it.

He's basically saying that Marquez is sandbagging and playing championship spoiler because he would rather have Lorenzo win over Rossi.

Rossi thinks Marquez is pissed at him for that last chicane at Assan, and another race that he thought Rossi influenced a crash of his. In the video Ianone agreed with Rossi that he thought Marquez was "playing" with them.

    Hmmmm.....

If that were true then why did Marc win the race? I would think if he were truly out there to play spoiler that he would have gave Horge the win but he didn't. I personally believe that every rider wants to win and none of them care about the championship except for Vale and Horge.

    Not sure.

If it is true, it could be that Marquez thought Lorenzo would open up a bigger gap than he did, and since Ianone was beating Rossi at the end maybe he figured "what the hell" I think I can take the win and Rossi finishes 4th anyway...

In any event, I think it was smart of Rossi to bring it up if he indeed believes that to be the case. This way all eyes will be on what Marquez does in the next 2 races. Kinda forces Marquez to go for it and not screw around.

Just watched the vid and agree. Now that it's been pointed out maybe Marc will be more conscious of what he does during the last two races but also have to say I doubt it. He wants to win just like anybody else and while I see how Rossi can think this is the case, I still have doubt about Marc's deliberate intention to be spoiler. Just my opinion.

    Who knows.

Rossi has a ton of experience and strikes me as a pretty straight shooter. I don't think he would make that claim unless he felt strongly it were the case. Also for Ianone to say that he agreed and that he made some passes on Marquez that were 'too easy' and that he couldn't explain.

You would think that he wouldn't do something like that, but who knows, he is young and maybe he was really pissed at Rossi and let his emotions get the best of him.

Next two races will be VERY interesting. I will be glued.....

Did you watch the interview? It was clear that he was joking about Marquez trying to help Lorenzo.

Yes, MM pushing faster does help Lorenzo go faster, but it is all a natural part of racing and not that MM93 was trying to help JL99 at the expense of VR46.

Did you read the article? I don't think he was joking, but of course they're going to say it in a somewhat joking way at the press conference....

By the way, how do you guys think it will end?? Rossi or Lorenzo???

I'm going to support my boy and say:

    Rossi - 332
    Lorenzo - 330

    #FORZAROSSI !!

I didn't read the article, I WATCHED the press conference where you can see Rossi's expression and hear the inflection in his voice and the whole context of what he said. It was very clear that he was joking about MM trying to help Lorenzo. His fast riding did help JL, but that was not his focus.

As for how it ends, I hope that it stays super close through the race at Sepang so that it comes down to the final race where I *hope* that Rossi earns his 10th championship.

OFC he's going to play it off in a press conference. I don't understand how the general public has yet to realize that Rossi is just a master of human psychology where it comes to marketing his personality.

Can someone link the article? Sounds interesting. I think in Australia Marquez was just trying to stay upfront. He can't win the championship, so I think his goal is to just finish as good as possible for Honda. Not to sandbag Rossi. Although I can see through his eyes, why he would do it, but imo seems unlikely.

I want Lorenzo to win. I don't care for him as a person, but I'm not a fan of Rossi either. I started following the sport when Rossi was on the ducati. So I never really "got" the vr46 craze. Plus I don't want Biaggi to eat his words.

Do you think that Marquez helped out Lorenzo at Phillip Island?
....“For me it was a big disappointment, I was upset, it was from a few races ago that I knew, but I did not expect him to do something so obvious. I feel disappointment, regret and worry, because surely he will try to do it here and also in Valencia.”

Why do you think he did this?
“Because he would prefer Lorenzo to win. He is angry at me for a personal matter. Although he never said it, he thinks that in Argentina I made him crash; and then at Assen he is still thinking about the last chicane, in his head he feels he should have won that race. Since then he has been angry and thinking like a child: I do not win, but you do not win either. At this point, the lesser evil is for him is for Lorenzo to win.”

Is it something that motivates you or makes you angry?
"Let's see. Because if he's faster yet slows down to get involved in the battles further back, it could become difficult. Because he has nothing to lose, but I do. I have to be wary. I'm sorry and I'm quite angry. I did not expect that Marquez was an obstacle for this Championship, I thought I was only fighting against Jorge, as it should be.”

    Still think he was joking??

I watched the full press conference and have to agree that this was more of a joke that Rossi played out to relieve the pressure that Andrea has received through social media. Rossi called us stupid and he's correct. We have no idea of what it's like to ride at those speeds on bikes that we'll never get a chance to ride! I think that was a more serious point that he made vs Marc trying to play with them. I am all for Rossi and want it to go to the last race! This has been a great season so far and unlike WSBK, it's still on! This is racing at its best!

These are not Rossi's exact words from the press conference. Maybe he said this in another interview but at the press conference, it was more of a joke.

Right, those are quotes from an interview with the Italian media following the press conference.

They have to be somewhat light hearted at the press conference because they obviously don't want it to get nasty up there after the race, but he was clearly not joking.

Booma - the article you posted quotes from is certainly different than the Sepang pre-race conference that I watched.

Here is where Rossi is correct. Here we are arguing over what Rossi may or may not have said and or what his demeanor was when he said it. We are stupid people who have the amazing ability to say whatever we want anonymously from our keyboards and none of us really know anything! lol!!!

Clearly from watching so much MGP we know EXACTLY what is going on in these guys' heads. Marc is the devil! Rossi is just a poor victim!

Emotions are high this season, anything at this point can be construed as malicious. Clearly Dani doesn't want Val to win either when he didn't concede first place to him in Japan because Rossi needed the points more! (sarc)

Clearly if Rossi referred to us as "stupid" he was joking....
