Just curious how long the michelin evos are lasting for everyone else. I got a day and a half out of the rear this past weekend.
That doesn't seem very good. A guy I know was on his 7th day on the rear and front and still going strong according to him. Bike is a built up RSV4 with more power than anyone would ever need. And he's an advanced group rider and used to be an expert racer....granted he probably doesn't do quite as many people in a day as others might.
Well I do ride A as well. Def not an expert racer tho. Talked to a few people at tally who said that was about normal for that track at the pace I was running. Keep in mind my duc is very torquey and I consulted with Huey who confirmed it wasnt a suspension issue. Also in my opinion I was probably the smoothest I've ever been on the throttle those days as well. Just trying to get a general consensus for my own curiousity.
Conditions, track surface, rider, suspension all are contributing factors. Let's see a picture of the tire.
Was that you with the new toy hauler at tally? Tally will eat tires like a hungry dynasore, you rode Advance both days so day ind a half is really good, i coached Novice on Saturday and Intermediate on Sunday and left side of my GP-A tire is gooooooone. Nola is not bad on tires it will last you for a good bit, same as barber.
Yes that was me. I knew the track was harsh on tires just never ran the new evo I always used Pirelli super bike pros but was kind of in a pinch considering the two morning sessions Saturday left me with practically nothing left on the rear. I thought the evos were supposed to last longer then that but owell. I will say one thing tho they are STICKY!!!!! And now I'm hooked. I finally stepped up to a comp tire over the superbike pros and it's nice to not slide around every turn when pushing a spirted pace. Just to prove how sticky they were I went out the last session of A on Sunday and according to Trevor he heard on the radio the corners workers talking about me getting an elbow down in turn six and that was with the tires being pretty toast at that point( that's a huge feat for me) . That and I could never feel comfortable pushing hard left turning but after feeling these tires and "trusting" them I didn't have a doubt. Moral of the story great tire.... Just sucks blowing 260 bucks on tire for one weekend.
Agreed... That would be the track that did the eating of your tire.. I bet your right side was still good, just left side was toast?? I just coached Novice both days with minimal play time in other groups, but if I were just riding in A, I would expect the left side of a rear to last one day and have to flip it to last the second day :thumb:
Front seems to last forever. I'm currently on my 4th rear with the same front. The rear I'm getting about 75 laps. What pressures are you running?
30 front and 24 rear cold... Tried bumping up to 26 in the rear but the wear didn't get any better or worse. I have about maybe half a front left. Both were brand new Saturday. I opted for the front slick and went with the dot rear
Have you had your suspension and bike setup by someone who knows what they are doing? I start with the rear at 22psi cold.
holly crap, these things have been out a while but there is still such a wide range of pressures people run. I was running 33/23 off the warmers last gingerman bike night and they are in great shape. Any expert opinions out there?
if I remember correctly.. its the same as the cups used to be and the current slicks.. a "starting" pressure is 30 front and 22 rear COLD this is from STS
That's what Dave Grey said. 22/23 rear cold. I'm mid I and get 2 track days, flip 'em, get 2 more. This is all at TGPR of course. I could use my take offs for my FZ1 street. The center is like new.
Ah well that explains it if the track is very abrasive. I'm not familiar with that track, but I've been to one in my area (Heartland Park Topeka) that is the same way...it chews tires about twice as fast as most other tracks I've been on. Michelin recommends 30/23 or so cold, and 32/25 hot. I got good wear with those pressures, but that was on the previous slicks. Haven't tried the EVO's yet.
if your gauging your wear off the superbike pro, then you are comparing apples and watermelons. There isnt much out there that will wear as well as the pro's. The are not the tires that offer the most grip. They are specifically designed for track day enthusiast that is willing to sacrifice outright grip for some longevity. You should have noticed a much higher level of grip with the Evo's, which come with a sacrifice in life.
No I wasn't comparing I was just saying this is my first shot at trying a comp tire. Even with the pros I was only getting 3-3 1/2 days out out of those
I am going to give those a shot. The Michelin tires are good but I think I prefer the profile of the Pirelli a little better. That and they are a little cheaper.
