As a last option I would probably do that. I have 2 of the fronts so thats $30 in question, plus I would then have to pay mounting and balancing at the local dealer for an additional $25 a wheel so I would be spending about $80 to recall 2 tires.

FWI - Michelin is paying dealers $50 per wheel for M & B. If a dealer can't make 50% on a carry-in wheel at $50 for M & B they need to close it down. Not to mention a new customer through the door which is awesome.

Yep , I tried the 2CT's at Tally for my last trackday and went as fast as I had ever gone on DOT's :)

Saw this on another site :

"Michelin warns that at speeds exceeding normal highway riding, the tires in question may exhibit an abnormal deformation in the tread, which may be accompanied by small localized sections of tread separation or loss. The tires also could experience a slight to excessive vibration and create an unstable riding condition. "

    1) Dead customers don’t buy tires.

    2) There are more than a couple heavy handed riders on 1000 cc machines out there using these tires and a single law suit is enough to hurt the company down the road. How many people today are putting Firestone’s on their SUVs?

If i go down on my tire because i chose to keep pushing it at the track on my ZX10R, that was my own choice. I pushed these tires all weekend at Autobahn even on the full course and never had an issue. Even when the temps were way up there.

But if i die, someone please order 10 more sets for me to ride with in the afterlife.

I would venture to say that Firestone probably makes one of the safest tires on the planet right now. BUT if you run them at high speeds 30%-40% under inflated and are an average SUV driver who hasn't a f'ing clue about what to do when a trie blows you're screwd..... just like you would be with a Michelin, Goodyear, Ching Shen, Yokohama, etc.... FWIW, I'd run Firestones on our Explorer if I wasn't a Michelin distributor. If you check you will see that Firestones sales of light truck (which includes SUV's) has rebounded substaintially.

There have been zero failures in service. There have been a very small number of tires in Europe, Germany to be specific, which were run and high speeds (155mph+) for extended periods of time (many miles) and these subject tires suffered tread deformation. This is a precautionary recall, not an urgent safety recall.

We have sold several thousand 2CT fronts and been able to follow hundreds and hundereds through thier service life and have not witnessed a single quality issue. With this said, we support Michelin's stance.

What if we get the tire exchanged at a local dealer and get it mounted at the track - or is that the bottleneck for your tire service?

I checked TT Cycles and they don't even carry the 2CT line - anyone have dealer suggestions in the Detroit area (I'm in Ann Arbor)?

jmerlinw - Rosenau has stocked Pilots in the past. You might give them a try.

So are non-recalled 2CTs available yet? If not, does anyone know when they will be?

Fresh 2CT's are in route from Spain now. I was told mid to late July. It takes a couple of weeks to make and ship 10,000+ tires.

I understand about the Firestone deal, just using it as an example because everyone should be aware of it.

When there is a person driving a vehicle they have no business owning in the first place and at their very best do everything exactly wrong. Then compound that with inattentiveness (sleepy, drunk, using cell phone, eating etc...) vehicle overloading, towing a trailer, low tire pressures, and who know what else, well, then you get what happened when an emergency pops up.

Also, with the Firestone issue there were other things happening too which didn’t make the press.
But, there was a rate of failures with Firestone’s own testing inside their plant which was beyond their acceptable rate. Part of their recovery is selling to the OEMs and their close family relationship with Ford. I also imagine the Bridgestone buyout helped buoy the public’s opinion too.
